1998 Jaguar – Disproportionate fuel use.

I have a 98 Jaguar with dual gas tanks. The engine uses fuel from one of the tanks more rapidly than the other tank, probably at about a 3:1 ratio. Do I need to fix this, or just ignore it and keep topping off both tanks as necessary? My main concerns are (1) will it hurt anything if one of the two tanks is empty and I keep running? and (2) because one of the tanks is used more slowly, might that gas perhaps go bad? I use marine Sta-Bil every time I fill up.Also, if I do need to address it, I am guessing my first step would be to replace the T-valve switch that controls whether the fuel comes from both tanks or just one. If thats off base, please let me know. Thanks.

Unless Im mistaken or someone has modified your setup, the two tanks are separate from each other. The t valve switch changes from left to right and off. It doesnt pull simultaneously. What he said, unless it was modified it should only be pulling from the tank that is selected in the rear of the boat.

Yep, two different tanks. Use one on the morning run, and switch it over for the afternoon return run.

Is there anyway to link the tanks together? Would be nice to have them suck down together and the load always be balanced.

Thanks for the responses. Ill have to wait until I have the boat again to see how this information makes sense with my tanks. I could swear the fuel value in the splash well is pointing straight up, and the fuel is consumed from both tanks, but about 3X faster from the left tank. Maybe I have the valve set incorrectly? I didnt see Jaguar on the list in the link posted by BCB, but my set up seems more like the first example of two 26 gal tanks.

On my 2000 cougar with dual rear tanks the fuel selector is mount on the rear splashwell. Straight up is the left (passenger side tank) pointed to the drivers side is the right tank.

I believe when I run the fuel levels down, I may try to modify them. I dont like having to constantly switch tanks.
