I have a 98 optimax marineer on a boat I just bought, the first time out, the temp sensor, went off, but on my bp101 dash the oil sensor was flashing, the motor had oil in both reseverves and was peeing water I was told that the motor had two cylinders redone once but was covered under waranty Does anyone have any ideas or know about these motors being problems? The key should be on to stop the oil signal, as it is activated by voltage. BCBLast edited by rjl1975 on December 12th, 2007, 4:26 am, edited 1 time in total.
rjl1975, The first thing I would check is this: Take your cowling off the engine. Look for a small oil reservoir that is attatched to the engine. This should be completely full of oil. If it isnt full of oil that may be the reason for your sensors going off. If it isnt full of oil you will need to crank your engine on a hose or in the lake and then take the small cap off that small reservoir under the cowling. The oil will start filling this up. When it gets full put the cap back on the reservoir. Be ready to put the cap back on quickly in order not to allow oil to spill onto your engine parts. I have seen this as the culprit many times. I hope this helps. Todd Witt Corinth, MS
thanks for the info I have seen that befor two, but I checked that to when it went off, but it was full to. so Im not sure where o go next, I have run mercury efis and yamaha for years and never had any problems Im worried I go a piece of junk with this one now the person I bought the boat from wont return a call so probably tells me alot.
Could be a dash problem, but I know nothing about those Super Dashes! To be on the safe side I would visit a mechanic just to make sure that it wasnt overheating and that everything checked out OK. They can put it on a computer to tell if there are any issues. Good luck!
My 98 P3 did that same thing from the get go when I bought it. The previous owner tried everything from isolating the the fuel tanks to cutting wires to get it to stop. He ended up tapeing pakaging peanuts around it to moffell the sound. I changed the fuel filter which had alot of water in it and the beeping and the the oil alert flashing stopped. It has a 200 merc efi on it.
I have had the same problem with a 1999 Mariner Optimax. The alarm from the BP dash will display for a True “Oil” problem and you will also get the Oil Alarm for water in the fuel. The fuel filter sensor utilizes the same message – “OIL Alarm” for indication purposes. In this particular area, there is a lot of gas stations with a 10% blend of Ethanol . I have to continually dump fuel out of the water/fuel seperator filter. Normally do this about every 3rd or 4th time I fuel up. Just something to live with is all.
Just remove the sender on the bottom of that canister, and let the water drain out into a cup. The oil sensor should shut off, when the key is turned on. Flashing is Water in Fuel, Oil and solid is Temperature on the LCD window. BCB
how did you make out with your opti problem? i was actually talking to this guy about the boat and he said powerhead was replaced 2 times. and i had David Tucker check the boat out for me and he said he knew someone who knew the boats history, and the powerhead was replaced 3 times by the original owner. hope you get it running right without to much cost.
I had not heard that, I was told the had only been cylinder work to two cylinders, are you talking about the pantera 3 out of fortsmith?
Yes. i was actually talking to him for like 2 weeks and i had someone look at it on saturday and he said it seemed to be in good condition. i called the owner that night to tell him i wanted the motor to get tested and he said you were coming with cash in hand the next day to look at it and that he would take the motor to get inspected if you did not want it. still can not get in touch with him?
