I am going to add a 998 series bow unit to go with my 958 that is already up front.. I have the 958 in the standard well area with the foot pedal. Can you guys post some pictures on how you laid out your front deck with dual units..Doesnt matter lowrance or HB. I am somewhat concerned about the vulnerability of the unit on the ram mount on the Bigger water…I will use the 2 inch balls but still…
What boat model?
2010 Puma FTD….I get in and out of the boat from the front alot because I load and unload by myself so I dont want the electronics to interfere with that….You cant powerload in Michigan….
I have had both units in the well and didnt really like it all that much. The angle wasnt right for me. Next boat I went with the Ram mount and loved it. I had a 9 inch Humminbird in the well and a Vexilar Edge3 on the Ram so these are decent sized units I am talking about and the vast majority of my fishing is on Champlain. You would be surprised at how little jarring motion there is up front. I would leave the unit up unless it was really rough, then I would lay it flat, face down on the front deck and tighten the Ram mount. Again, no movement, ever. I would lay it flat when I trailered fearing a stray rock or whatever. I will do the same setup in my 2013. I loved it this way.I would suggest a dry run on a nice calm day before you actually install the Ram mount. You want it in a good spot for viewing and leaving room for the butt ends of your rods.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
Just read your post about getting in and out…Never in the way but you may want to consider that in your dry run.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
How about the new Talon brackets with removable RAM ball on the bow. Slip it into the step or the front area pad and flush when you want or not. BCB

BCBI have never seen these before. What do you think of drilling this size hole in the deck? Structurally sound or not a consideration? There is one mounted on the walk through video from John Crews. It is mounted where the step pad / Grip tape is.Check the 6:50 time mark on the videoThat set up has the Talon bracket mounted at the console for the 998 so you can transfer it from console to the bow.I am using the same setup for my Ipad. It is mounted with the Talon bracket on the console then it can be moved to the bow.If you order the Talon mount direct from the company it is cheaper and they offer a two pack. Then go through RAM for the ball and arm attachments.Jamey
Those Tallon mounts look nice…I am a little apprehensive about drilling a 2 inch hole in the forward area of the cap….Could this make the bow cap area have a greater tendency to stress crack or weaken it??
