I purchased my first cat last February and let me say I love it!! I have a 2004 Pantera Classic with a 200 Merc EFI. I started off by replacing plugs, fuel filter, water pump and lower unit oil. Boat ran fine up until about a month ago. I ran into the motor randomly not starting after fishing at my first stop for an hour or so. I checked all connections and went ahead and jumped it off with a screw driver to the solenoid plate which intercepts the key switch and the solenoid on the side of the starter. I think this plate takes the normal 12 volts and reduces it to around 9 volts, could be worng? If I jump the solenoid that is on the side of the starter it just spins and doesnt engage the starter, is that normal? Anyway, this problem became random and the boat will start first time off the trailer everytime and after short runs. Seems to do it more often after longer runs. I replaced the key switch and the solenoid plate I spoke about earlier because they were cheap fixes. Needless to say the problem was not solved. Now I recently noticed I sometimes get a short alarm after starting the engine in addition to the normal beep after the key is turned to the on position. Maybe a voltage alarm? Checked voltage on battery and it was 12.8. The starter and solenoid are a little more pricey, wanted some input before going after those.
