2000 Cougar – steering fluid ????

What type of fluid is recommended for the steering on a 2000 Cougar?How full should it be?Fill it till it overflows?Should it be drained periodically?Is there a drain plug?Thanks,Mark

Sea Star fluid or equivalent , which I believe is called H5606 . — It is basically aviation hydraulic fluid . — Wear rubber gloves when handling or your skin will peel off for weeks . — ( Dont ask me how I know !!! ) —– Full to the opening . — No drain plug , that Ive found anyway . — Should be good for YEARS in these systems . — Hoss Last edited by BIGCATTER on October 9th, 2015, 7:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

i have been told to bleed the system similar to brake calipers. there is a special (screw in) fitting and the other end attaches to the bottle. turn the bottle up and then turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right, crack the bleeder at the same end on the hydraulic ram side and repeat for the other side. you may confirm this w/a dealer or seastar?

Go to SeaStar if you dont have the manual and follow todays directions.
