I have a chance to buy a 2001225 Mercury Opti to stick on the back of my Cat. The motor is a 2001. I know the early model years had some issues. The guy said no major work. He told me no compression tests or leak down test were done as he had no need. This is what he provided me with info. The only things done to the motor are as follows:All merc recalls were done Engine has run only Mercury Optimax oli. always run Kwikleen and Seafoam and the lower unity oil is changes each season use only Merc Hi Perf. Water pump upgrade was done, something about eliminating water pump from bulging? Service BulletinWhen the water pump was upgraded I had the whole lower unit resealed and pressure tested. New spark plugs at 325 hoursCompressor failed around 335 hours – replaced with complete new one, also replaced the two oil filters on the return lines.New warning horn at 354 hours gave false warningNever done a compression or leak down done engine is strong so mechanic never had reason.Everything except the spark plugs has been done by Master Mercury Tech Todd Wing from T & T Marine What do ya think Last edited by Mainecat on January 18th, 2011, 3:09 am, edited 1 time in total.
