Im looking at a 2001 Pantera Classic that has a Mercury Optimax 200 on it. Im a little leary of the engine because I know they had some problems around that year. Should I stay away from this engine? Last edited by basscat21 on October 30th, 2012, 1:47 pm, edited 1 time in total.

only things i heard from my tech (mine is a 2000 – 225) is the fuel rails black= stock blue is better (replacement) and to put fiber reeds in. warm it up properly before pouring the coals to it. Also heard if it lives past 50 hours you will probably be OK. I think warm up is critical on these engines.
