Purchase just done on this rig 8 days ago, which has appearance of a boat maybe a year or two old, unmarked with carpet and seats very good shape, 5 brand new tires, same as BCB puts on their new rigs, 3 new batteries. Most accessories are original. Motor ran well using “ears” to run water through to start motor. 200hp Optimax. Guy lived about 2 1/2 hrs. from serviceable lake to try boat out on. Put on Calif. Delta yesterday first time, motor started instantly – moved it around to get away from ramp in reverse then put in forward to go to another dock to pickup friend coming back from taking pickup to parking area. Motor stopped on its own and could not restart. Never had this happen and had an 02 Classic with same motor for 8 yrs with almost zero problems. Turned over after that but did not start nor show indication it was going to start. We had feeling wasnt getting fuel? Im not much re mechanics but local shops cannot get it in for 2 weeks. Any ideas that might give me starting point?
Check your kill switch. Had a similar problem and the lanyard was pulled out just enough to trip the switch. Had to look close to notice what was wrong
Kill switch
I did that on the water yesterday, also took the lanyard off and flipped switch up all the way – still would turn over easily but would not start? Also had friend squeeze fuel ball to make sure full and nothing. That motor had full annual service done on it in May this year and boat has not been in the water until yesterday. Both mechanics that worked on it stated motor ran “great”! The lake the seller uses is under zebra mussel quarantine + ramps way out of the water. Closest lake to use from there was 2 1/2 hr. drive away.
Should have dual tanks on that P3. Check the fuel selector switch to make sure it is selecting from a tank that has gas in it, and not in the “off” position.
Yes, dual 26s I think. Left tank straight up, right tank arrows to the right. Moved them back and forth several times after originally started OK – nothing changed and still wouldnt start. Thanks
Have the fuel hoses been upgraded yet, as well as the bulb to ethanol resistant. Had a buddy who had a similar problem that was due to the deterioration of the lines and got chunks into the motor fuel delivery system. Wouldnt start – had to be towed back to marina.
Full annual service done on motor in May, hose with primer bulb replaced then – others had been replaced previously. Both fuel tanks drained and flushed with fresh fuel put in also. New spark plugs, water pump impeller, etc. all replaced, lower end oil drained/replaced. Has not been on water since then until I tried to go out fishing yesterday – didnt make it due to not being able to restart and also found out the T/M will only turn to the left, cannot turn to the right at all????
I saw your post earlier and thought “kill switch”. But youve checked it at the shifter and thats all good.Next may be out left field, but…battery cables tight? Loose spark plug or plug wire?Lastly I will say that I had something similar once but it turned out that the kill switch activated internally in the engine. Just some ideas
I believe the opti has a starter relay kinda like the up and down relays for your trim. You can tell the difference in them by turning the key halfway an it should make a “click noise” Also double check your crank battery voltage , optis are sensitive to that. Just because a battery is new doesnt mean its got good voltage. I have had to return a battery a time or two for that reason.
