2003 JAG RATED FOR A 225 LIKE IS ON IT OR 250?

ANYONE KNOW THE ANSWER? IT HAS A 225 EVINRUDE HO, CAN A 225 MERC PRO XS BE HOOKED UP TO IT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS? MAYBE A HYDRO JACK PLATE?

My 00 cougar is rated for 285hp so my guess is you are just fine with a 250hp. They are the same size, to convert from e-rude to merc you will have to change cable and all controls and probably some dash instruments.Irv

Rated for up to 285, will run in the low 70s with a 225, if its anything like my 02/225 Jag was. Fantastic boat, Id buy another one in a minute if I was in the market. Just sold my 02 last year and it was holding up perfect. Mike

version? I like them, in fact I like chicken cooked in them as well. but who cares, anyhow thanks for the info, I was thinking of selling or something with the 225 ho evinrude and sticking a 250 po xs merc on the back with a jackplate. Or just keep whats on it and see how long it holds up, who knows? I never owned a evinrude or johnson that didnt spend more time in the shop than on the water. So I switched to Merc or Yamaha and have had good luck with them. I wonder if they chnged the hull under them since 2003? I expect a smooth ride from what everyone has ever said, so that is what I need and to keep cost down I thought get an older one and put a newer engine on it.

Im running an 09 PIV with an Evinrude 200HO, its been a great motor so far. Ive always heard Evinrude had the bugs worked out of that 225 by 03, but the 09 is the only blue motor Ive had. I saw the pictures of that Jag over on the sale page, it looks to be well worth the price to me if the motor is good. Id run it like it is and repower on down the road. Like I said before, I loved my Jag, BCB can give you the history on that hull, but I believe it is the same as what was used on the Puma/Cougar up to 08 or so. The deck and storage are different, it has a passenger side rear deck rod locker thats pretty handy. The fish in my picture is an 18 pound idaho Steelhead. Mike

Hey bud, to be perfectly honest with you the motor on your Jaguar is 1 if the most Reliable DFIs made to date, No Chit…..that thing is a frickin Torque monster, 247hp at the prop, if it has red oil in the tank run her Down and get in with a BRP dealer online or personally that has XAD100 in bulk. Its 100% synthetic, has Carb X in it so theirs no De-carbing every 50hrs, run Startron or fuel coanditoner in your fuel, change over the plugs to the latest E-Tec plugs, get her propped to be at the 5800-6000 range when your LOADED dont prop it for a light load if you dont run that way, worst thing for any Stroke of motor…….it will do nothing g but add warranty to spend several thousand dollars on a optimax pop or SUV motor…….any help let me know Brannon 847 450 4011
