2005 Cougar center lid issue

Hey guys it seems my center lids for one dont have gas shocks on them, and two they always seem to get loose. I think the issue is when I lift the lid and let it swing open (stern to bow) it pulls on the rivets. Im thinking the solution would be to add shocks and I was wondering if anyway has done this… Advice on this would be appreciated.

You can through bolt the shock brackets, and fasten them to the lips while spacing them off the drain channels. The Cougar FTD front lid did not originally come with shocks as you could swing it against the carpet and it would stay, though if you press it backwards it sure can spring the hinge. This was an option when your boat was made. BCB

Thanks BCB, I figured it would have been an option that was missed on my boat because its just not right without it. Does anyone have a pic of this shock placement etc? Im going to add it ASAP but will need the size and location. ?????

Get the 50 pound shock, and there is no magical geometry on this one, just a straight shock mount.
