Still trying to get use to the 05 Puma. In the front starboard compartment is something attached to the side about the size and shape of a round smoke alarm. The top pops off and nothing inside. What is it??? Also the literature (old ads) on the 05 Puma speaks of storage for the bump board. Where is it?? Lastly, Ive got a couple of lids that look warped. The back is removable and I took it off and it looks to be twisted. What caused this and is there something that can be done to reverse the twist. The Port side Rod box lid is also this way. Thanks for a quality product. This is my third Basscat, my first being a 79 1500Vee.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
On a 2005 model the rear backs are plastic and when the passenger leans back in his seat, then have memory on the position. The frame is aluminum and it can also crack the lower joint. The newer seats are fiberglass, and the frames are different. You can also put a board across the backs of the seats and tighten a strap to either a seat post or fixed object and return them somewhat to their position with some forward force applied. The board (2×4) allows the force to be applied more evenly, and we put a pad under it to distribute the stress on the back of the seat. If the weld is broken, then you might not be able to retain this. You can also replace the seats, though that is costly. BCB
Thanks for the reply, if I cant bend them back up a little, Ill replace the seats. Is that a fairly simple install?
Yes, not too bad at all!
I believe they have said it is a day use box to keep things dry.
Johnthe container in the locker is a dry spot for registration, insurance ect.on the lids, sometimes they get bent or warped from people leaving items partly in and part out of lockers then stepping on them. If I am not mistaken your libs should be aluminum so you can very carefully apply reverse techniques here and place a solid item under a reverse corner and gently apply pressure to even things out. take you time and make small adjustments at a time. you can also remove the lid completely and use a solid clean surface to adjust them then remount. Good luck and just take your time.JohnTreat everyday like it might be the last
I assume the bump board you are refering to is for measuring your fish. It is located in the front middle compartment that also stows your net. Open the lid, and look at the back of the storage area, up top and you will find the storage.
Thanks guys.Jones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird
The small device you are referring to that is the size of a smoke alarm may be a line spooler. My Cougar has one in the storage boxes up front.
No, it Is the container for registration and insurance.
It would be an interesting survey or thread to ask “Who uses the registration/insurnace storage compartment for that purpose?” I dont, I keep them in sealed plastic bags with my manuals, maps, etc. in the starboard rod locker. Have a zip back to keep everything together where I can find it quick.

I remove them and have more room for tackle boxes to fit more easily in front storage box…Like you, I use a Zip-lock bag and keep paperwork in passenger console.Gary Hollander
