Hello BCB board. Im the original owner of a 2005 Sabre. I recently went to pull the bow light 6″ long pole out of the socket and one of the wires came with it ! Fairly early on with the boat I noticed when I pulled the light out, one of the wires would come out of the socket, and then I would just push it back down with my finger 1″ and it would be ready to use the next time. 13 years later, it ripped the wire out and now Im left with no power or ground lol. So Im not quite sure on what I should do at this point. Its going to be awfully hard to access this wire to splice a new end on, Id imagine. I have no access hole cut under the TM, but I have ran wires through the access panel area before in the footwell. My main question: is there a cool red/green running light upgrade I could do to bypass this repair, or should I just try to fix the stock setup ? Ive seen some pretty badass rubrail type red/green LED setup before, not sure if thats legal or the way to go. Running those wires would be a mystery unless there was install instructions too haha.What should I do fellow bassers? Thanks.Chris Blandi

1. The rub rail lights are not yet coastguard approved. I have seen a number of tickets issued by marine police. Which means “not me” until they become legal.2. Sounds like it is time to replace something. Not clear to me whether you pulled something out of the socket or out of the light fixture itself. If fixture, replacements are easy to find. If the socket self-destructed, drill out the rivets, pull the wire out through that hole, and hopefully you can fish out the one that is broken. You can connect the new light base, then rivet it back in place (or use sheet metal screws if you prefer to avoid the rivet hassle).

I hear ya Oldtimer. I will give it a closer look, but Im pretty sure Ill be drilling out the rivets and putting a new socket base and wires in place, if available through Basscat parts. One wire came out of the socket and pulled out of its butt connector. Ill be sure to take home my mechanical fingers to help grab the wire once I get the base off. Maybe it wont be so hard after all. Thanks.

Chris4pt3 that is a simple job. Just follow #2 step that “oldtimer 57” has outlined for you and youll be back on the water in no time.

You can always just drill the bronze part and re-solder the wire in place.
