My 2006 Opti 225 is only warming up to 85 – 90ish when idling (should be around 120), and once I get on plane to about 30-40 mph, water temperature goes up to about 118 ish and drops back down to around 85 – 90ish when off plane and idling…Checked both termostats and they are clear of debries…Is this normal this time of the yr due to colder water temperature?…About to have engine checked out by local Merc dealer soon…Thanks in advance…
Sounds a little cool. Mine was getting up to the 130s (after a good run) in 48 degree water yesterday. I didnt check it just after idle (even though I should have).
Personally, id hook up the flush out hose and run her on the hose for a bit and flush out the system, i like mine a bit warmer than that,,,,then id have dealer check it out. I just had my stats replaced to prevent this.
I had the same engine on a 2006 CougarFTD. Mine would run at about 95-110 when at idle, and around 127-134 while running. Of course that range would depend on air and water temps. Actually the 250 proxs on my 09 CougarFTD runs almost identical temperatures.
Just got the boat back from local Mercury dealer…Turned out to be a bad termostat on the starboard side and everything else checked out fine…Temp is back to norm now…Thanks for all the responses…
Good find. I always wait for temp to hit 120 on my opti before I hit it. The one time it would not, found a conroe rock stuck and holding starboard thermostat open.
