Trim gauges(2) – Smartcraft and standard dial type (installed in console) will not read below “Trailer”. Boat tech did a check and says its a gauge issue not sending unit or bad ground, he hooked up another gauge and it reads normal while traveling up & down. How can both gauges be faulty the same way? Is there a single wire delivery system for this type of set up? Sent an e-mail to BassCat parts last weekend but no answer from them yet. How hard is a switch out and how much (if available) $$$ for replacement of both or either? Is there a way to check a common wire to both? Also have numerous lights out on the A-10 touch pad (all switches work though) and thinking of replacing it also if I can get a price and answer on difficulty of replacement. Thanks for the help.Tom
Have you emailed Mercury to see what they have to say about their gauges and how they are connect to the analog? If the tech hooked up a new gauge and its working properly then shouldve replaced the gauge, Unless im reading that wrong. When the dial gauge moved before, did the smartcraft gauge correlate with movement of the analog gauge? If it did and i would assume it would, i think you have your problem identified and the smart craft gauge (or which ever new one he hooked up) is faulty. The gauge is more than likely the master where the analog gets its signal from.Replacement of touch pad is simple, though i think there may be a shortage of them at the moment.http://basscatowners.yuku.com/topic/344 … d-real-bad
Are you running a smartcraft monitor? Or the smartcraft rpm and speed gauges. I installed a monitor a while back. I got a little better understanding of how it gets the signals. If it 2006 and newer the smartcraft is built in the ignition harness. Keep in mind that the digital signal will convert to analog. With the monitor install you will have a 4 way junction probally in your dash. I would think this is where the digital to analog takes place meaning I had to install a short harness to the 4 way junction that feeds my analog gauges. Though with actual smartcraft gauges Im not sure if the junction is used. Though wat I have read the rpm gauge is the driver of this system. So Im just guessing here. If your digital trim sensor checked good. Both gauge aND monitor or analog gauge and smartcraft rpm gauge being bad not likely in my opinion. The dash is available on the Parts site and the trim gauge issue is most likely the sending unit from the engine company. BCB Does not sell or tech those as it is an engine part, see your dealership on that one. You can not drive both analog and digital gauges with the sender, there should only be one gauge and we are suspect someone tried adding a gauge because one was not operating.
Bass Cat,No, this was purchased new from Mossdale boats this way, always worked ok until now. I am the original owner. Tech said he checked the sending unit by attaching a new gauge to it and it worked fine. Both types were installed in dash by Bass Cat (or the dealer selling it new?). Im not sure what type/size of gauge the tech used but the problem for me is fitting the pre-drilled holes of the older units (either). Tech didnt try to sell me new gauges, just advised me that it was not the sending unit. Also have an analog (dial type) water pressure gauge below the Smartcraft gauges also installed by you (or dealer). When I bought the boat (already on the lot) I paid for the Smartcraft upgrade and not sure if they added them later or they were already in the dash (come on, that was ten years ago and Im old now! I was old then). Either way, I need a replacement for one or the other (or both) seeing as all the gauges have always worked the same (water pressure and Tilt/trim) and everything else on the Smartcraft seems fine. Would need direct replacements for the size of the holes and would like to know how hard of a change out. All the gauges are surrounded by red bezels. Thats a Bass Cat thing. I could take a picture of the dash and attach it here but Im not sure how to add a picture.I could try a replacement sending unit, the tech told me its a $90 part (cheap) but the install may not be so easy, he was going to do it free because he was replacing the tilt/trim unit anyway. Not sure this would be a home project for a non-mechanical person? Boat 2006 PIV hull #BASN2955L506Also, asking about the A-10 touch pad, sounds like replacement availability is in question? Mine has most lights out but does function fine. Any suggestions
You can easily replace the ATen dash and those are available in a newer revision. The trim sender will not function both the analog and digital trim gauges. Either or as the signals are different. If the gauges were dealer installed upon your request then that explains the situation around two trim gauges. If they are both SmartCraft then they will both function on a digital sender, and the SmartCraft link gauges appear to be analog in some cases, or like a older wand gauge. They should say SmartCraft on those gauges, or they will be linked via a Deutsche connector harness to the Mercury Gauges beside it. While that may send complicated it will define the style of gauge. Your Mercury Technician should be able to tell you exactly.
