My Sabre with a 150 hp Opti chine walks at 60 mph gps. I have 3 different props, tempest 25p, tubo 24p and a Turbo Lightening 24P – all 3 blades and all do the same thing. Should I be using a different prop or set these props up differently. I have a 6″ manual jackplate too. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jeff
Jeff Regardless of prop, you will experience chine walk until you learn to drive. A 4 blade prop is a little easier to drive. All props are different and subtle changes are probably required to reach max potential. Good luck!
I have an 06 Sabre with a 150 Merc and 24p Tempest, it chines at 60-61 gps with tourney load and 2 people. What I do is try and make the quick chops to the left on the steering wheel. There is a video I watched on this web site http://www.bassboatcentral.com search under chine walk. It helped me out, also now I can predict when it will chinewalk and counter act to it. I try and balance the pads with slight adjustments in the steering. Hope this helps.
It takes seat time. I have been where you are now and it took me a while to finally figure it out. You will figure it out but you have to work at. The best way I can describe the fix is to anticipate the feeling that your boat is going to fall off the bottom pad to the right that starts the chine walk. To prevent chine walk at High speeds to WOT you have to constantly do small jerks to the left with the steering wheel to counter act the propeller rotation that cause the boat to fall off pad to the right. At WO you constantly have to do these small jerks to keep the boat balanced. That is the best way I can describe the sensation and solution to your chine walk issues. Good luck! misr12
When you start to correct chine walking try to feel what she wants to do through the seat. I have a hydraulic jsck plate on my 08 Puma w/250 pro XS. It changes little every time out but you can minumize chine walking with boat set-up. For instance; last time out I was making corrections every 12 seconds, and some times its every 4 seconds while at WOT. Phil gave the best idea 100% pure seat time will get you through it. Find a large lake and just drive, it will come to you, Rusty.
The Sabre is fairly easy to drive, and there are a good many on this site who can attest to that. It does take seat time with any upper performing hull if you are not experienced. There are a few links and How To instructions on this site and in the FAQ Section on driving skills. Take your time and read up on how to. Dont get caught up on the set up till you understand the skills needed. You might let your area dealer or a well experienced friend drive it to learn how to drive. Check out the how to and let us know if we can help! BCB
ive found out if your sabre is chine walking you are trimmed to high at propper trim i can run mine WOT with no hands on the wheel although not suggested only making a point i could set a glass of water on the step at WOT and never spill a drop you must realize tha the 150hps wont run with a 200 or bigger no mater how u dirve just learr your equiptment and it will take care of u
Jeff, I have an 07 Sabre and have learned alot about it this passed year. Stick with the Tempest or fury if you can swing it. Mine can chine in the mid to upper 50s in glass water by myself if I let it. I have raised the plate up about an inch over factory and seems to be easier to drive as you do not have to trim as far to get the speeds. There is a point at about 68.5 where it drives so smooth and easy, its awesome. Beyond that while trying for 70 it has my full attention with constant steering corrections (too much trim). Like all have said seat time and for me driving with my left hand only, as two hands make it harder. Hope this helps and good luck, John
Dont forget to adjust the weight of your takle in the boat to much weight on one side makes A big differnce in my 04 Sabre 150 Opti 25 Temp + Bump the trim down once or twice and I can drive WOT with no hands duel cable steering. Seat time is a must good luck.
