I have a 2007 Sabre bought it in August 2010 I am having a problem with the tilt and trim on my V MAX 150 it is making a sketching noise when going down on load and coming off of load. Also I have a Motor Guide 71lb it does not do the job any help there would be nice. I do love my boat it does kick —–Thanks Mike
Hi Mike,The 71lb motor should be plenty. I would use a volmeter to check the power going to the motor. I would start at the foot pedal and work my way back ensuring that your meter reads 24v.Not sure what your issue with your trim is. What do you mean by “going down on load adn coming off on load”? What does a sketching noise sound like? Screeching? I would look for fluid leaks around the trim cylider(s).
Just put a dab of grease on the end of the trim cylinders when you have it all the way up. That sound will go away. On the troller have you checked your batteries? Or your charger? That 71lb should be plenty for the Sabre.
Check the battery voltage and grease the trim ends as suggested. Chattering will go away, and you will know what the voltage is. Sounds like charging or battery issues to us. That is plenty of Trolling Motor. BCB
I will check the voltage and check fluid and and a little grease. Thanks Mike
I have an 08 Sabre w/ the 71lb MG troller. I did have to replace my batteries earlier this year. Once the deep cycles run their cycle life – they may have charge when you leave the house but go down quickly on the water. I do use two different props on the troller depending on where Im fishing. If Im anywhere grass/pads might be – I stick with the 3 blade. When fishing in river current or “grassless” lakes – I go with the two blade “power prop”. The power prop gets me equal boat speeds at lower motor speeds and seems to be quieter doing it. As well, when Im in river current, the power prop does a better job of pulling against “strong” current. The 71lb. is more than adequate as long as your batteries are up to the task.
I have a 56# trolling motor on my sabre. Put it on 24v and high setting and I have to brace myself for how fast it takes off when I hit the pedal. I can not imagine what a 71# would feel like.
I had a 71 on mine and replaced it with a Tour 109 36 volt….over kill…… yes most of the time but when I need it to get through weeds, wind, stumps or cover a lot of water on scattered trees it is there and I will end up with just as much power at the end of a tournament as I started. I really got tired of running out of power at the end of a tournament and replacing batteries every year. Current batteries are going on two years and they are charged in less than 6 hours in most cases. I only use three batteries total so besides going from a group 24 to a 31 for the starting/accessories battery I added no more weight to the boat and I have never run out of juice no matter how hard I have pushed them. You would see a huge difference with just the 82 digital. Upgrade to digital if you can afford the bucks.ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud

Sometimes he lets me ride in his boat…occasionally he lets me catch a fish. Between our gear and body weight, the 71 still does a good job.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
Yup I have the brute. I also have a 2,3 and 4 blade props. The 2 blade flies, the 4 blade is slow but never hangs in weeds.
