2008 Cougar FTD MG to Minnkota Question

I am going to airship a MK 101 Fortrex to have it for Saturday. I have a MG 82lb Tour Edition on the boat now. I have a couple of questions.1. How hard is it to un mount the MG and mount the MK, do I need to drill holes?2. I believe my current motor is 45″, where do I measure to ensure.Any response/expereince appreciated.-Henry

I did this a few years ago on a Jag, you go through the access panel up front and you can get to the six bolts holding the MG on, there are aluminum backer plates secured by washers and locknuts. I think I ended up drilling two holes to get the right location, the MK mount fit most of the the motorguide holes, you have to remove a cover panel on the Fortrex to access the holes, then put it back on. I remember the whole process to go from MG to MK was easy. The 45 inch version was what I used on the 02 Jag

The Fortrex will mount to the same holes that were used for the MG. Looking at the Fortrex mount from the front, remove the three screws that hold the left side cover on and it will reveal a set of holes that will match up to the MG holes. Made the switch on my last boat, a 06 Classic. Hope this helps.Troy West

Did the same going from MG to MK. As far as the access panel goes, hope you have scrawny forearms!! If you are Popeye you are in trouble. Lucky I have the fore arms of a 7th grader. And dont drop the washers, and nuts!!!Good luck Henry, love my Minn kota, wish I would have got the 45″ instead of the 52″, but I do not fish big water.Bill

The ones I have changed out the guys have wanted to keep the stock minn Kota hole pattern for quick change outs so weve drilled new holes . West marine has a poly stireign patch kit that works pretty well , or at least until a real gel coat guy can get at it . A couple of us also dreaded the 52 inch monster and had our 45 shafts replaced with custom 49 inch shafts which seem to work out well and not all that expensive .
