Got this last year at the OI. I tried it a few times without success. I figured it would be a Strike King 2011 model but it is not in their 2011 catalog. Is it a failed prototype or what? Anyone else have any experience with this lure. Seems to walk pretty easy, maybe I just need to give a some more time. Shame to lose it if it didnt make production but then again maybe theres a reason it didnt make it.
Sexy Dawg…………….should be hitting the store shelves soon. There are several other baits that will also be coming out shortly from SKL. You probably need to give it a few more chances before retiring it.
Hey guys I would not call it a failed prototype but one that is possibly being reworked a bit. It is indeed a Sexy Dawg and we had a bunch made for last years OI before they actually hit the market. We tested it some more after that and found we had trouble casting the bait effectively. A walking type bait needs to be one you can make a long cast with to reach those schoolers when they are up and cast wise this one was not cutting it. Its being looked at for possible tweaks. If you have one I would hang onto it though. Thanks, CB
Thanks for the feedback. I will indeed give it another try. I dont remember it being hard to cast, just that it seemed rather heavy for a topwater lure. I noticed there are brush strokes in the paint, very prototype looking in that respect.
Strike King has debuted several lures over the years at the Owners Invitational giving you guys among the first shot to try them out. The Red Eye Shad was one of those the year of the major flooding and high lake level.
I still have mine and it looks like it just came out of the package. I fish all the Tennessee Chain, mainly Guntersville, and have not had any luck at this point with the lure. I will continue to try it and hope for the best.
