The Leavenworth Bass Club is hosting its 3rd annual Fishing for Freedom event on 8-9 Oct at Truman lake. We are expecting 125+ wounded warriors and GWOT veterans to attend this year. Warrior participants come from all over the region, Ft Riley, Ft Leavenworth, Ft Leonard Wood, Whiteman AFB, Ft Polk La, and Ft Hood, Tx just to name a few. The event provides an all expense paid weekend for these warriors that begins with a pretournamnet banquet on 8 Oct and culminates with a buddy bass tournament on Sunday. Every warrior receives a rod and reel and tackle packet from our sponsors and plaques are presented to the top 10 teams and Big Bass. Meals are provided for both warriors and volunteers on Saturday evening, breakfast Sunday morning, and an after weigh-in BBQ on Sunday. Additionally, we provide lodging for the weekend for every warrior. Volunteers are responsible for their own lodging. We will have some door prizes available for our volunteer boaters as well. This event is all about having a good time in the outdoors in an attempt to show these heroes how much we appreciate their service and sacrifice.We still need approximately 70 volunteer boaters to make the 2011 event a success and are hopeful that some in the Basscat family can support us as a volunteer boater. Guys, I know some of you have participated in the past tournaments and we thank you very much. This years date conflicts with the Missouri Bass Federation state qualifier and we lost some participants. We actually set our date last October and cant change it. The staff and volunteers of Fishing for Freedom do not get a dime from this. We spend our own money on gas, oil, lodging, and meals to put this tournament on. There are no expense accounts. All donations go the the veterans and their support staff. This is our way of saying thank you for your service.
