BCB or any others……last night I spoke with Jeff Reed with Hummmingbird. He is in Atlanta for 2 days (today being number 2) at Bass Pro Shops. I told him my front unit, 788c, was reading crazy depths, losing the bottom, looks like a game of “brick break” in color at the top of the screen……etc. Jeff asked me what boat is this rigged on… I told him a 2011 Bass Cat PII. Without him knowing where my transducer is located, Jeff said,” your problem is because BCB mounted your transducer inside the hull and the epoxy they use is not securing the transducer.” I asked him, “how do you know this?” Response, “Ive fixed several of these on Bass Cats already. If I drive my boat (70 miles) to BPS, he will fix the problem. Since this appears to be a rigging problem from the factory, how does the warranty apply? Suggestions?? Thanks

We are not aware of any frequent issues involving transducer mounting. We have seen faulty transducers, and BCB does not use epoxy. It will depend on the issue? There is no way it can be accessed on the front unit unless it is loose and can be removed.

To me it sounds like you might need to adjust the settings on the unit. I always thought the transducer breaking free will not give a reading, kind of like the unit on the trailer and out of the water. Try putting in a depth limit that is several feet over the deepest water you fish in the manual settings and see if this helps. I thought the sensitivity wasnt as good as it could (couldnt see my dropshot) be so I added a trolling motor transducer to mine. Hope this helps. I though BBC glassed in the transducer so I cant imagine it breaking free.

I have a 2011 PII with a with a 858 up front and 898 at the back. I had some issues with the 898 on the back. I had to call Hummingbird. I had to do two software downloads and finally Sherm and Sherms Marine got it to work correctly. I would first give Hummingbird a call and tell them what is going on. I would guess you will first have to do a software download and go from there. Hummingbirds customer service is very good.
