Got out this morning for the first time in over six weeks. This is the longest I have gone without fishing out of a BassCat since 2008. Mid morning air temps at 85° plus and rising, no current going up river (Logan Martin), 1/2 tank of gas, pedal to the metal and was all over 68.5 mph and climbing before I got to my deep cranking hole. I really think I could get to 69 but the need for speed in the heat just isnt there. Gonna have fun in the late fall and try out my Bros 26 Fury for S&Gs to see if my 175HPDI can get to 5600 rpms with that prop. Thats for another day. Yep, there is fun besides a tug at the end of the line with these boats. Only made one run since I had the itch to fish. Man, these Sabres are fun to drive. I almost forgot how much fun it was to be on the water. Chine started about 65 mph. What a testament the new Sabre hull. Not sure what year BassCat did the upgrade but its definitely easier to drive then my 2008 Sabre which was very responsive and good. This hull is faster too. Oh, and caught eight fish on 10-14 humps in 3 hours of fishing. Side Note: I took out my hot foot for added driving comfort and can honestly say I do not miss it one bit. Going forward Ill not have another. Thats not a negative toward hot foots. I think they are great but not worth the extra cost for me and I sure do enjoy the cruise control stretching out my legs. After being in a BassCat I cant imagine anyone leaving the family. These boats flat out rock!!!
What RPMs did you get with the 24 Fury…. Also what is max RPM for the Yamaha 175 ?

Fastest Ive gone so far has been 71.3 in winter time temps one the GPS but that was with my 25p Fury. I think max RPMs are 6100. Dont hold me to that though. Correction, 6000 rpms……Last edited by Flyswatter on July 8th, 2012, 9:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Hang onto that boat. Im about sick over all this work stuff, finally have a garage for a 20 footer and now may have to move again???? It all came flooding back why I had a boat that fit in a 20 garage at the first mention of the word move……..sick. Its in his hands. We have done all we can do. Enjoy it Tom!
John, thanks for the comments. My SabreFTD is a keeper. Only way I would consider a switch would be for a refreshed PIV and that boat would have to dazzle me a bit to consider that potential. Trust me Im not holding my breath on that one. Maybe someday. The SabreFTD offers many things that fit me perfectly. I wanted a console for larger graphs I got it. The Sabres hull performance jumps out at both spectrums with hole shot and WOT performance. The boat drives great, I feel secure in rough water and I have plenty of room on the front deck with the bow forward TM recessed foot well that makes this 18 boat fish longer more like a 19 footer with a rod and reel in hand. After removing the hotfoot and getting past my fears of not having a hot foot I couldnt be more satisfied with my setup. I have found comfort and performance that meets my expectations. I like the retractable rod straps too boot as well as my kick arse marine iPod centric radio (Kenwood 700u). As for motor performance I really do like Yamaha motors but if my dealer carried Evinrude or Mercury Id have one of those hanging on the back of my boat. To me motors are nothing more then metal, nuts, bolts, fiberglass and plastic and they all offer great performance with extended warranties. Finding a dealer you can trust is more important then the name on the cowling to me. Just so happens my dealer is a Yamaha specific dealer. So for me dealer trumps motor because I have a good dealer with the Brech family at Brech Marine in Selma, Al.So to the end of my response its easy to get distracted with the coolness of a BassCat boat but the most under appreciated non-tangible asset from any boat Company and fortuantely for us we all know BassCat has it is their OEM support. Quality dealerships and website forums offers the security with the coin phrase being part of the family. I call it being BassCat strong!Totally Satisfied!Tom – FlyswatterLast edited by Flyswatter on July 9th, 2012, 12:34 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Tom what is your water pressure with the 24 fury. My dealer ran a 24 fury on my Pro XS and said the water pressure wasnt there. He has a 24 tempest on it now and has a 25 tempest ordered for me. He said the smaller diameter of the fury was the reason for this. Also how far below the pad is your propshaft?

Im at 3″ below pad and current WPSI is 12-15 lbs at WOT.
futruecat, maybe Im missing something here, but prop directly relating to low w/p? Id agree if top end speed is way different between the 2. The Tempest likes height and you will be around 3 1/4 to 3 3/8 to keep good w/p. The fury likes lower on the plate closer to 3 1/2. Since the proxs doesnt have low water pickups the fury is the better choice IMO. Change the impeller if low w/p, my w/p was low even when brand new until I had a new impeller installed-never an issue anymore. I replace every 1 to 1 1/2 seasons. John
John, Im curious if you have ever tried a 26p prop in cooler season for entertainment purposes for speed. The thought never occurred to try till I saw my bros 26 Fury in my garage. Last edited by Flyswatter on July 10th, 2012, 8:17 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I have not. I figured if Im only at 5,800 to 5,900 w/light load cool weather, I probably couldnt turn it. Although you never know! Lol
