Coming out of a drive its self P4 into this Cougar. I have to learn to drive the walk. Thats a different story. Currently the best I can get is 77+ out of her. When I add a partner and his stuff, about 20 pounds and a half dozen rods the speeds drop a bit more than expected. When we fill the live wells, the best I can get is 72. This is with a 1/3 to. 1/2 tank of fuel, running the trim about 3/4. It has a 26 fury on the 250 Pro XS. I have not touched the set up sense this boat was ran at the dealers meeting last fall. I have not seen the RPM. There is a lot of stealing torque and less than motor height rooster tail. I know we really need the RPMs. Is this boat performing correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Eric

I think you might be trimmed too high. It surely does take some time to learn to drive one of those boats. I have an 09Cougar FTD. I still cant drive it faster than maybe 76mph. Sherm had mine up to 79.9 on glass like water last fall.

Some of it is likely driver, some of it may be the set up including the props ability to hold the hull weighted, the engine itself, and some of it may be water conditions. Lots of variables to consider.

We would communicate with your dealership and see. There are some aspects that are quite different though you should be able to get a handle on it. Totally different than your Pantera IV model and you may have to try another input driver or propeller.

Nice boat, jus like my 2013 cougar. Im guessing if your boat was around for the dealer meeting you do not have the new lower unit. So maybe to much trim, what is your plate height, what is your rpm @ wot? All boats differ, but Ive never had a cat be that weight sensitive. Mine run 80.3 last weekend with 3 folks an over 1/2 gas. Easiest way to see would be get somebody experienced with the cougar or puma ftd to make a pass in it.

More like engine height needing to be lowered also.
