Seen other posts on here about prop blowout with the new lower units. I have a 13 Cougar advantage with a 250 Pro XS 26 fury no PVS plugs in that blows out right when it breaks over. Ive tried lowering it and raising it but nothing helps. Its currently 1/4 below level on jack plate which makes it 3 1/4 prop to pad. I also tried a pro max prop which also had blowout. Also I have recently put 2 10 ft talons on so now when I have live wells full and me by myself it will take 10-15 seconds to get on plane just feels like nose stands straight up and plows water and it still blows out then also when it breaks over. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just dont like the answer well thats the new lower unit. If thats the case why doesnt any of my other friends boats with that lower unit blowout.
Try a 25p Fury. Should solve most of your problems. Burying the engine lower is likely hurting you hole shot. It also helps if you turn your engine right or left as you come out of the hole. Blow out for a second or so is not bad. Let that be a guide to your hole shot woes. Good luck!
If I dont let out of the throttle it would blowout 5 or 6 seconds. I tried putting plugs in but all that did was really make hole shot terrible. Had jack plate 1/4 above level and holeshot was still bad and steering torque getting harder. Thats why I i figured lowering it would help holeshot and steering torque. I will try a 25 fury once I get the funds to buy one. Just
I have a puma ftd with the two talons like your rig. Wiuth wells full and full fuel cell holeshot is terrible even with a 25 fury. Between 4 batteries, talons and all that weight it is no wonder. I do get some prop blow out as it breaks over. I just ease off the hot foot some and left he prop grab the water then good to go. With 1/2 fuel and wells dry hole shot is good. Might need to go down to a 24 fury for that application. I have a 27 bravo fs and had extra holes drilled in it for holeshot. It is still sluggish without all the weight but does carry the load better al all rpms except wot.
Another solution is to have your prop worked (tuned). Ive had the new gear case since theyve come out on 2 different boats and have never had any problem with hole shot. 27 Fury, but tuned up.
Another solution is try a 4 blade, with all that weight it will probably solve your issues , it of course will hurt the top end but with all the weight not that big of a deal. You should still run in the mid to upper 70s
Are we sure we are not confusing prop venting and blow out?? When you say blow out-how many RPMS. Ideally it should vent to around 3500-3700 rpms coming outta the hole. Have got extra holes in Bravo FS and that rascal vents and spools up to around 4000 rpms. I dont feather it or back off-let er eat. When it bites its outta there quick. I could choke off a couple holes and get the venting down to 3700 rpms but then it wont vent at low rpms and hard to load.
