Im sure its difficult to pick just 8 venues out of the whole country, but sometimes you have to wonder what in the world they are thinking. Is it really in the best interest of the sport, the anglers, and our entertainment, or is it just whoever comes up with the money to bring them?Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
Combination of all mentioned toledo.
Looks like the west coast is never going to be in the venue. It was nice to hang out with John Crews when he won the Ca. Delta.
I was thinking….for pure entertainment and big fish, Id be satisfied with them hitting California, south Texas and maybe Guntersville. I know there are many other great lakes and naturally Id love them to come back to Toledo Bend or even Sam Rayburn.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console
I like the different venues on the schedule. The LaCrosse tournament is on the same weekend that it was this year and should have a 5 fish limit. Im clueless about the Sabine River, isnt that a major tributary on Toledo Bend or am I mixed up?
Sabine River in Orange; going to be interesting, not close to Toledo Bend, but downstream where the Sabine flows into tidal marsh and Sabine Lake. That area was devastated by Hurricane Ike as the storm surge virutally destroyed the freshwater fishery. Going to to be an interesting tournament. Lots of fishable water on the Louisiana side of the river, marsh and cypress sloughs. I fished several local tournaments there way back in the 70s and we caught lots of numbers, but little size. For the adventurous ones, up the river there is an area where the river splits and the islands have tons of backwater sloughs and channels, really desolate as the area is the southern section of the Sabine River known as the “Devils Pocket”.
I agree with you in that I like different venues and even returning to some that they havent visited for years. You are correct that the Sabine River was dammed to create Toledo Bend. This tournament will take place on the lower end of the river….below Toledo Bend almost to the gulf. Orange, Tx is located east of Beaumont, TX. Im not familiar with it at all so theres no telling what to expect whether it will be true river fishing or if there are a lot of backwater areas like on the Red River. The only thing for sure is that those guys will find the fish. doprofsh answered some of the mystery about the waters while I was typing.
