My 2014 P4 with Mercury 200 Pro XS is not performing. Been in Cats for over 20 years & stumped. You may be able to help w a suggestion. Keep in mind I have 2 power poles (added weight) & 10 gallon kicker tank (LH back corner). All notes are fully loaded & partner1. started with 25P Fury and it would only turn 5200 RPMs & 62 MPH & hole shot was slow2. switched to 24P Fury and it turns 5400 RPM’s & 63 MPH & hole shot improved3. still runs slow, no lift, feels sloppy in back & it feels like prop trail behind motor occurs pre-mature (too quick)…almost like “blowing out” & bow lift never occurs 4. heres the tricky & weird part…so when I got boat the 200 CPM (computer) was bad & we had to put a 225 CPM on it while waiting for the new 200 CPM replacement. With the 24P Fury it turned 5750 RPMs (perfect) & ran a steady 67 with 2 partners (again perfect). It had good lift & not sloppy in back, and prop trail behind motor was normal. When I put the correct 200 CPM on it is when all the problems occur on notes 1, 2, & 3 above.Sure could use some help with someone who has their 2016 P4 dailed in with a similar set-up to mine (2 power poles & kicker tank)Thank you,Todd HarrisClemmons, NC (336)-978-3762, or ]
Obviously something is wrong with the motor. What will take some time to analyze. Swapping PCMs should not have much of an effect. Probably changed the timing and fuel trim a bit. Very difficult to diagonose over the internet however, so many variables. Unless you have 500 pounds of jigs in the front of the boat, that motor ought to spin that 24p fury pretty well. Why it isnt is a question.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
I tend to agree with you, but this was a left over boat I boat new in Dec & motor only has 14 hours…guess I need to talk with Mercury.
If by CPM you are speaking of the Engine Control Module (main module that controls nearly all operations of the engine, including timing, fuel, etc) then I would say you have yet another bad module. If it ran fine with the one for a 225, theres no reason for it to do what its doing other than the module is not operating properly. As in it sounds like either the timing is WAY off, or the module is not firing one cylinder.Either way, Id be contacting my dealer/Mercury as it is definitely a problem with the engine not functioning normally.Did they send a NEW module or repair the old one? I would INSIST on a new one for a motor that has that few hours on it, assuming it is still under warranty.2017 Sabre FTD AE DC2017 Yamaha 175 SHOMK Fortrex 80Helix 10 Mega SI in consoleHelix 7 GPS SI GN2 on bow
Took me a while to get used to Mercury calling it a PCM. “Propulsion Control Module”. To me, PCM has always been “Powertrain Control Module”. In any case, something is up. It could have been damaged by static electricity discharge, or most anything. It could be a wire not connected. It could be a bunch of things. Id let a mercury tech hook up his CDS and find out what is going on…2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
Harrist your boat will perform well if the engine is working as it should be. My previous boat was a P4 and it ran 71 mph every day of the week on top end. Yours will too when your engine is up to par.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Make sure the throttle or the hot foot is going all the way open!
Thank you for the reply everyone! From all imputs, the common theme is there is something wrong with motor. Everyone agrees, and I just talked to Mecury Tech, 24P Fury without question should turn the motor a minimum of 5700 RPMs. Have apointment with Mercury Tech next Tuesday…hookup CDS, check trottle / hotfoot, and etc. Theres more history on motor my Tech shared with me, but not smart to point fingers in this environment…a private conversation will take place. Needless to say disappointing! Will keep you posted.
My 2012 will run 70.8 with 2 ppl and light load w/ 24 Fury
Just ran my classic yesterday. Into a 15mph head wind. 600 pounds of people (3). 50 pounds of dogs (2). reached 71.3 before I reached the point where I needed to turn into the creek that goes to the ramp. MIGHT be good for 71.5 with that load and wind, but probably not any more (2008 classic, 2014 pro xs 200, 26p 3 blade Fury). It has broken 78 a couple of times and is a consistent 76.5-77.5 with just me in the boat.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
