2015 Margay trailer sway

I have a 2015 Margay with a single axle trailer. When Im on the interstate the trailer pulls great as long as I keep it under 70. If I go faster than 70 the. The trailer begins to sway back and forth behind the truck and will only stop swaying if I slow down. Is this just the way it is or should I bring this problem up at the dealership?

Is the trailer sitting level behind the tow vehicle? Tongue height can have a lot to do with it.

It is extremely close to level, the toungue is slightly high. When I say slightly I mean 1″ max. Its almost perfectly level.

To much weight behind the axle will cause excessive sway as well, usually comes into play when the tounge weight is to light. I know it is a silly question but will ask it anyways, Is the boat all the way forward on the trailer up to the front roller. Is it worse when the fuel tank is full vs empty.

Yes, boat is always pulled up completely, havent noticed a difference when tank is full or empty. I normally keep it full. I could run it down and see if that makes a difference.

Since I am in California with a 55 mph speed limit for towing this topic has me curious. Is towing at 70+ mph legal where you live? and if so, where is that?!Dave.

It sounds like a loaded Margay with a 150 engine and tongue weight could be a factor. 3″ frame or 4″ frame?

I have the 150 opti on it and yes it has the 3″ frame.

We do think most Margays for long haul towing, with major equipment and large batteries, should have a 4″ frame. Local anglers will be fine with a 3″ and especially a 115 engine, the tongue weight may need some increasing for a more wide spread use. Plus Texas may have a 70-75 MPH Speed Limit, though trailer towing is regulated to 5 MPH less than listed, for those of you in Texas that dont know that. Many of those close to Sam Rayburn traveling through San Augustine can definitely verify the Tx Highway Patrols knowledge of that. BCB
