I currently own a 2017 Cougar SP and previously owned a 2014 Cougar FTD. Fuel tank placement is the same with both of those boats (mine). Now the rear hatch is different, as well as how the hoses come out of the rear compartment. That being said the 2014 I had was a faster boat than the 2017 I currently own. My 17 has poles on it, the 14 did not, and hate to say it but that has more of an effect than fuel tank placement. My 2017 is also more of an handful as I go faster versus the 14. Both boats would go faster than 80, drove the 14 past 77 by myself, and have been in this one past 77 with another person driving it. The main differences between the two boats are the compartment locks, the alarm system, a built in front light on the FTD versus one on a post on the SP, the horn placement is different, more chrome on the ftd, the center pop out cleats on the FTD versus none on the SP. Much of this seems like nothing, however, you should dig through both boats notate everything prior to buying one over the other. Good luck with your research.
