2020 Trailer Brake Noise

I’ve got a 2020 Lynx trailer that I’m hearing some sort of issue with. I have the XR 84 surge brake. It’s a rubbing sound when brakes are applied but seems to be getting worse. I checked brake fluid in the actuator and it was slightly low so I topped off. Still getting a lot of rubbing when coming to a stop. I initially thought it was something with the pads or rotors but while being pulled out of water on trailer while in the boat, all of the noise seems to come from the actuator. I’m not sure what else it could be other than a fluid issue. The other day I noticed that it was rubbing slightly even with the vehicle stopped (unless I’m nuts) so I’m convinced it something with the actuator piston. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

It sounds to us like your E brake cable has been pulled and we would look at the coupler to see if the E clip is off the small cable and the Brad is exposed. Which means the brakes have been pulled activated and that is the number one issue.

If that E Brake cable is pulled, how do you reset it? I’ve never had an E brake cable. It was cut on my 06 trailer when I bought the boat

It was likely not cut, though broken which means it activated the brakes. You will have to replace it, though you have much larger problems in that case.

I believe he was talking about the 2006 Bass Cat, not his current 2020.

Thank you. And yes, the cable on the 2006 was cut. Although, no one has told me to push the release before trailering nor have I seen a warning sticker or plate on my 2020.

There are two warning stickers on 2020 models, one on the side of the coupler. The second is on top of the coupler where the DOT 5 fluid label is marked. It’s on the same label.

ALL trailer couplers are labeled on the side of the main coupler assembly and have been since inception of this style.

I needed to add electric brakes to the second axle of my other 20’ trailer. I heard about this LIBRA trailer brake and I wanted to try it out. Almost immediately, I noticed the immense difference it made when stopping every time I roll out my 6,000-pound aluminum fishing boat.

So that little tab underneath the coupler should be pushed in , correct ?

It’s just a tab that depresses and releases tension on the cable. Preventing the brake pads from dragging due to a load, which come from the cable having pressure on it. The cable has a part that retains pressure when it’s pulled. The tab releases that load.
