New boat as of yesterday… Went to run hard today, boat idles ok, 12.2 volts… It has the super dash which appears to be junk… When i plane out, boat runs ok when in easy on it , but at about 3k rom my voltage drops to like 9 volts then the more load I putninnit to open it all the way up it voices all over… It will rev then loose power like a miss… The voltmeter bounces all over… Bring it back to idle it stabilizes voltage? 98 225 efi 475 hrs.ideas?p
I had a 97 150 EFI. Check your voltage regulators. Yellow wires/connectors. I bet they are burnt. If you replace them, make sure you get the new style with the ground wire and fuse.Dave.
Idling at 12.2 V is not right. Should be significantly higher. (13 V?)12.2 is just the battery. No charging output from the boat motor. This can be readily confirmed with a voltmeter at the battery. You would be well advised to get the manufacturers motor specific manual that will guide you through diagnosis and repair. You can waste a lot of money swapping parts. (My 2 cents)
Batt static in back is 12.5. Running is 14.5. Obviously my dash gauge is way off… Also just lowered motor to let water drain out and a decent amount of burnt black oil comes out prop housing area?? Never noticed this on old motor. But it was a smaller 150. Normal?its a new lower unit. I checked lower unit oil just now, clean as can be… No water and a bluish green color…
Alternator / Generator, or Stator, and possibly the Voltage Regulator. We do not assume the dash to be junk as they are prone to wiring issues like all other parts. Most we test are in operating condition and the issues are elsewhere. This has absolutely nothing to do with your BP-101 dash unit. You dont mention what model this is and if it has a BP-400 dash it is overdue an upgrade. The BP-2000 dashes were alright. BCB
It is the BP-101 dash. I plan to buy the a10 conversion because as of now Im having issues with the the dash on other things. It will say fault switching between different accy. I can see moisture in the touch pad when the light is on…. Also when I turn the master power on they do this odd countdown procedure. Like all the gauges look like an old lowrance flasher if that helps describe what they do?next I plan to go back with a meter hooked directly to batt and see whats its doing when in plan voltage wise. Idle can be a bit misleading it seems because everything is accurate when there is no load on the motorthoughts?
Boat is a 98 jaguar
What you are experiencing on your dash is a wiring supply issue and there are dual power feeds to the dash. It sounds like the supply is faulty or corroded at the terminal block or a switch at the bow. It definitely is not getting both positive feeds to the dash. Changing the dash wont help that as the wiring issue will still exist. That cycling is poor ground sometimes. Also remove the compass sensor and temperature probes independently to remove items that scramble the Analog to Digital Conversion inside the dash. Good Luck! BCB
I checked my power feeds last night. Both pin 1 & 4 were positive and had equal voltage. the master power switch has 12v. I checked continuity for all accy that were hooked up and all appears to be ok. I think horn didnt have it. But everything else did. Obviously features like live well temp sensor didnt bc there isnt one. My battery has 12v but Im gonna go have it load tested today. Wondering if it could be bad? Still dont understand why the dash voltage readout is 7.8v when the master power switch is 12v and do are both power leads running to dash? Seems odd?as for the motor, reading about maybe bad voltage regulators? Or bad stator… Apparently it had a 2 phase
If the temp probes or any of the A to D items are cut off or grounded out you have issues. They are there in the harness and the pdf or booklet will reveal the wiring. If those are cut off or inoperable you can have issues. The voltage can be there though wires broken at connections and grounds corroded will present problems identical to those you are experiencing.
