225 vs 250?

So Im going to upgrade next year from my 93PII to something newer, looking at 06 to 08 boats, I see some big boat only have a 225 on them, and Im having trouble pulling the trigger on a 225 when I could have a 250 on the boat. I know the difference is very little, why do some people opp for a 225 and not the 250? Im sure its just my mind set.

It depends on how fast you tend to drive your 93 model. If you drive it say 60 then it really wont matter to you other than your ego, then you will be pleased with either as your own person. If you drive the one now like you stole it always, then you will always wonder what the 250 would be like. Let price and your character be your guide.

Ask those guys behind me with their 250s coming outta the lock up into lake Dardanelle last year !In six miles not one of them cuaght my 225,,,,,so, it is all about rigging, driving, and the engine you get(some stronger than others). Either should satisify your need for speed.

a 250 is 5+ mph faster than a 225 any way you want to slice it. and the resale will be about 100 times faster in todays market.

250. I also have an ego as well as lots of other issues… And yes, I go as fast as I can ALL the time no matter how stupid others think I am. Just me though

I have a 200 ProXS on the back of my 2011 Eyra and it will touch 70. I live at Lake of the Ozarks which can be crazy with multiple off shore boat wakes coming from all directions and you can only rarely go faster than that. I had three of us rather large fellows with tournament gear go 66.4 with out much trouble. My 73 year old ego has come to terms with the speed issue.

250 for resale. Theres a reason BCB rarely sells a new one with a 225. You dont have to drive it wide open, but you eventually will anyway.

There were several Advantage Puma/Cougars sold with 225s at special pricing by BCB the last few years. Since you are looking used I would use the 225 to you advantage when negotiating. Nothing wrong with the 225. The boat is not underpowered at all and as Dbasketman said other brands with 250s will still be behind you.

I think it depends on what you want to do with your boat and the warter you fish. A recreational angler may not need a 250 to have fun whereas a tourney angler drives more WOT and hangs the biggest motor he can off the rear. I also fish Lake of the Ozarks around the Lodge of Four Season, and in season I seldom run over 45-50 mph. It is good to know you CAN go 70+ if storm is coming at you.
