I just received a 23P Fury to put on my 2009 Sabre with a 2018 150 Pro XS. Unfortunately I am heading out of town for the weekend, will not be able to run it until next week. Will update after I have had a chance to run it.
Tick…..
Hope to get out tomorrow afternoon. Should I start with all PVS plugs out or 2 out with one solid plug?
Out. Than add as needed.
Ive run a 24 Fury loaner from a buddy and loved the holeshot. All PVS holes completely open, very little bow rise, and much quicker launch than my Tempests – just a little tough to turn on top. Can hardly wait to hear how the 23 turns for you….
I was able to get to the lake today to run the Sabre with the 23P Fury. Here is what I experienced:2009 Sabre single console2018 150 hp Pro XS with 7 hours8″ Slidemaster jackplate set flush23P Fury3/4 tank fuelempty livewellsno passengerno PVS plugs3 second hole shot with slight bow lift and no blow out as it broke overWater pressure 16 psi at wotbest run was 62mph @ 5550 RPMslight chine walk starting at wot but controllableA couple times running 50 mph the rear end would shift what felt like a foot or so to the side, dont recall if it was left or right.Never did it when up and on pad.In my mind I need to raise the motor to get the last 200 RPM. I seem to remember when owners would experience the back end shifting BassCat would recommend lowering the motor so not sure.I have not driven a BassCat since I sold my 05 Pantera Classic with a Yamaha 200 in 2011 so I need seat time
It happened to shift about 3” to 4” right and felt like a 2’ to 3’ slide. This is from the engine being too low usually. You on track and watch wheel torque to tense up some as you reach good heights.
I raised the motor 1/2″ and gained 100 RPM. Hole shot did not change although it seems closer to blowing out as it breaks over. I monitored water pressure closer today and had 18 psi at wot on the Mercury monitor. Boat handled better with no back end shifting at 50 mph as when the jackplate was set flush. Still no steering torque and plenty of water pressure to go a little higher with the motor. The water temp here in Arkansas was 86 degrees. I filled the livewells, did not change the hole shot but lost a couple mph. 2009 Sabre single console2018 150 hp Pro XS with 7 hours8″ Slidemaster jackplate set 1/2″ above flush23P Fury3/4 tank fuelempty livewellsno passengerno PVS plugs3 second hole shot with slight bow lift and no blow out as it broke overWater pressure 18 psi at wotbest run was 64mph @ 5650 RPMslight chine walk starting at wot but controllable
It is TOUGH to lose enough water pressure to matter with the low water pickup Optis. I am running at 2.75″ and water pressure is over 20 (mercmonitor measurement) at 5K rpm and up. In the old days it was a serious problem, but in the old days the stock merc lower units only had the water inlets above the torpedo, as opposed to dead center on the front now.Id adjust in 1/4″ increments until speed drops or you begin to either not like the steering torque or the blowout as the bow breaks over. That blowout seems as natural as sunshine to me so I ignore it. Set up right, you can get a pretty good hole shot. I an punch the RPM up to 3500 and it will pop right out of the water without any “looking at the moon” bow rise. I can firewall it and it will pop right out faster, although you get that mercury scream on break-over.
Basscathash, do you know what your ptp measurement is?? Thanks for the informative information on the fury
