24 or 36 volt troller?

Its a tough call. You dont need a 36volt, unless you fish in a lot of current for an extended time. Ive had two Cougars and a Baycat. I had Motorguide 24 volt, 82lb thrust digital motors on all three. I never have run out of juice. I even have fished on Guntersville in the wind for two days with the Baycat and didnt charge my batteries!

Better to have the extra thrust and never use it, than not to have it and need it. I have a 36 on my PIV. Ed

Although an 82 does a pretty good job on that boat, the 75 may not be quite enough. The 109 digital certainly will push it around well, and being the TE digital, is a better motor than the FW series. The other thing to look at is the mount. The 75 FW is available in two mounting options, the Gator Flex and the Gator Breakaway. I dont know which mount you have. The flex is the flimsier of the two, and the breakaway is the beefier spring mount that is the same as on the TE digital models, and is stronger and better. If you fish in tournaments and windy conditions, the 109 is definitely the way to go. If you dont, you could sell them both and put on a brand new 82 at little or maybe no cost. My 82 is more than enough for my fishing on my Cougar.

I remember when 45lb was the hottest you could get, and it worked.Now everyone wants the 101-109 lb units. Personally the 82lb I think is plenty, and have never owned a 36v troller. The style of fishing has changed, but I find myself slowing down more now and fishing more thoroughly. I also feel the need for a 250 is overplayed myself. Yes, I like to go fast, but how fast is enough ? I outrun most loaded 250hp rigs with my 225, and I think it runs more within the parameters of engineering for that engine rather than maxed out like the 250.
