24v changing to a 36v

Hey guys Im currently running a Minn Kota Maxxum 80# and looking to change to a Fortrex 36v trolling motor. My boat is a 2000 Jag and my question is what would need to be done to change out to a 36v as far as wiring? should I run a new cable to the front of the boat as a best option? Im going to change to a lester charger so ill have a little extra room for a battery in the boat. If someone has a picture of what the inside of boat looks like as far as location of batteries and such that would be great. Im thinking to add a battery switch for the troller and starting battery as well.Comments and suggestions are welcome, I fish a fair amount of rough water in michigan and seems like the longer shaft 36v will be a great upgrade for me.Thanks guys.

Probably will need nothing except a short jumper to add in the new battery. In general you can use smaller wiring when going up in volts, thats the whole idea. Existing wiring will be more than enough.You simply add the new battery/box, take the wire from either the positive or negative post (wire that goes to front of boat) and put it on the SAME post on new battery. Then a jumper tp series-connect the two battery posts without a connection now.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200

Wiring would depend on whether the boat has the older style 4 wires to the front with the jumper at the bow, or the 2 wire system. If 2 wires, then just do as OT points out above.

Boat is in storage right now but from what I remember it actually has the 4 wires going to the front (I dont have a jumper from what i remember switching batteries out about 99% sure). If thats the case would it be possible to identify the two wires out of the four that I need and run jumpers as OT posted?

You can use any two of the four wires and just leave the other two disconnected. You will have reconfigure at the bow a bit seeing as your jumpers will now be at the back.
