Hey E-Tec guys im just curious what kind of rpms i should be seeing. I have an 08 couger with an 08 250 ho 25 fury and after i fried an injector it seems like i saw a loss in rpms.( after i had it replaced of course) i believe it has the 1.71 gearcase but i cant remember if i saw on a tag somewhere or i was assuming anyway i havent mastered driving it wide openbut i have run it 76 mph and in experienced hands ( a basscat pro) it ran something like 81.5 on the test run. It seems to top out at 5200 right now and creap up a little , i thought i was turning more rpms easier before but i am not sure . My hole shot is almost right now under any load. Any info will help???
Something is not right on the posted RPMs. That is too low for your performance.
My rpms were not in sequence with those performance # however i have noticed when i stab it and trim up it levels off at 5200 and then slowly creaps up a little somewhere in the low 70s . I have not been in areas where i can just run it and watch the rs / speed / trim nor am i that comfortable driving the chine yet ( sometimes it seems fierce other times non existent) however it seemed to me the rpms jumped higher than that even before trimming up around half on my gauge. So i was just looking for simular set ups rpm # so i can keep an eye on it.There was a dramatic change summer to winter it has gone from blowing the prop easy to not and back.
Scored cylinder is what was wrong when mine did this. Have the sleeves looked at with the cylinder head off.Been there seen that.EXACTLY what mine did 4-6 weeks ago.Idles fine(compression fine at idle so dont let em check it that way only), my hole shot was not affected tremendously(but some), I would lose compression in #5 or 6? above 5200 and that was it. When the cylinder head was taken off mine you could see a single little score in one cylinder that would cause all the issues. Man all I could tell was that the crosshatching on the sleeve was missing in a streak. Like yours mine would still run 75 with two guys in it but would top out around 5200 unless I just aired it out- it would then slowly creep up to 5800 but Id have to be airing it out. Take it to the boys at the shop and tell them what its doing. It aint load or temp. Like BCB said its not right. That motor will run hard and fast when its right. One other piece of advice. Dont get down about it if thats the case. Been some very interesting work in my neck of the woods on this block. Not the usual internet rumor BS. Good cooperative work with BRP and others. Despite 2 blocks in 240 hours over 2 years I wouldnt own anything different. Particularly now. Last edited by clownshoes on October 19th, 2010, 2:51 am, edited 2 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Thanks Ward i was hoping to here it from you on this one , and no problem on e-tec thing i went out of my way to get one with the blue motor they all have thier issues just what your confident in. Im not sure i will be able to talk the guys at the shop into looking that close without some hard evidence , i might have to run it and make sure i cant get more rpms. What should i see with that setup and where should the rpms start to flatten out??
Hey man- a 25 fury on that boat with 20 gallons of gas in it should easily run 5800 and run right up to it pretty dern quickly- shouldnt have to tease anything to get there. Above 5800-5900 it flattens out in a lot of the 250s. Hammer down, outta the hole in 2-3 seconds, trim up to the top on mine, bump trim down once, check my jackplate position, maybe touch it once and I am there with a 25 fury that was actually initially worked in your neck of the woods when Chad Martin was running my/his boat in Sacramento.Dude- that motor shouldnt run to 5200 and stop or struggle. No way. No matter what. Youd have to have the trim buried less than 1/2 on the gauge and I am still not sure it would run right up to 5400. I have put 4 guys in mine with cameras, gas, and 15 bags full of of fingerling bass and water in it and the holeshot was 4 seconds and would run straight on thru 5200 if I hadnt gotten off of it. Heck I even have a 52″ troller on the nose of mine. When its 60-70 outside like now at 5200 its usually around 74-75 mph. Mine will go 80-81 at 5850 with just me- but I dont like goin that fast. Not because I cant easily drive it there. I cant easily miss a log or dodge something in the AR river at that speed. Plus you gotta trim down to slow down at that speed and so on. Its just so dern fast. Got a fair ways above 79 at a a tournament take off about a month ago with a buddy and certainly its fun to watch those behind you back up quickly but its just so dern fast. No chine at all but my partner(P4 owner) looked a little spooked at the way everyone disappeared in the rear view. Staggering speed when you get clear of folks. When I called my shop with similar issues- one guy guessed fuel filter system and the other a cylinder. It was the cylinder. I am big time spoiled though- my motor goes to the only shop in the US cleared to remanufacture an etec block. YOUR MOTOR AINT RIGHT. Right on!!Ward that is what i needed to know and it just so happens that i have an A.M. appointment with my evinrude service guys so i will take er in and get er right. The water i have been running is the same deal (Cal Delta) and i just didnt have the room to feel it out but i kinda new something was missing.
Im still amazed at those #s, I think thats Sick that a motor runnin wrong still hit 75, not even bein a basher its cool. Like Ward said somethings not right, most when runnin right and being able to control the hull and HP are hitting the Limiter loaded or unloaded……With a 26 Fury my buddy is all over the limiter, runnin loaded with all fuel,2 grown midwest dudes, and tourney tackle store, Dennys hitting 77, and thats with 52gals of fuel! Runnin light and with boat control you will be seeing over 80 with that 2008 HO. So you know the 2008 was a Pure Beast, the Bullet guys were seeing #s of the 300 XS Racing motor when equipped with LWPs. In 2009 BRP made some changes and screwed her up a Lil, in 2010 all quibbles were addressed, with the Gear Ratio of 1:71.1 being almost cured with Fury props…..Once runnin correctly please post #s when loaded or however you typically run, Ward,Doug McGee, and Denny Rhead will get ya set up to Smoke almost anything out there…..Rememeber most important for DFIs of 225 and larger, CLEAN FUEL, I only suggest Shell, BRP XD-100 or XD-50 ONLY, do not use Amsoil or Royal Purple, use 2+4 Fuel Conditioner or Startron fuel additives, you shouldnt need Sea Foam or Merc Quikleen with XD100 and Shell, but its only a couple bucks and your motor is about $16,000……Brannon DAY or NIGHT BCB/HO Etec Hotline: 847-450-4011 Your Signature …
Ward spilled some cool-aide ! At those speeds he better keep an eye on his hull,,,,,,,i dont think that one is “speed rated” ! lol
I aint drinkin the blue Kool aid til I can go 120 hours without detonation….Great when it runs but aint great when it dont!C.O.D. Jr. III
