I have a 250 Pro XS ordered with my new Puma FTD. Im use to running Yamahas so my question is, what water pressure and engine temp should the Merc be running?
I dont know what it is but it is normal. People have complained about it for the last couple of years. I will say the most recent 250ProXS that I have doesnt do it near as bad as the previous one. Again I dont know what it is but some have said it is the reeds or reed cages???? Judd Lasiter
I thought this was secondary to the solid motor mounts on this engine? Normal if soC.O.D. Jr. III
Thanks Judd. Mike
Mike, If only your boat had a 250 HO hanging on the back!!! It would be the badest boat on the planet!!! Not to mention the best looking. Hope you caught some good ones. I would have called, but been trying to fix up my taxes. Ill give you a ring the next warm snap. Hope all is well. Cant wait to take a ride in your FTD!!! Ben
Mike, It is most likely also tinging in that range, which is either the throttle cam, or the side plates on the motor mount covers rattling. BCB
All rotating equipment has a critical speed. This is the point at which vibration is at its highest point. This is normal, but is not good to run in this range.
Ok Phil… I will just run it at idle or wide open! lol… Hope to see you at the owners in March. Ben… Evinrude, Evinrude, Evinrude….. you sound like a broken record. I still like like you though. If you havent found a partner for the OI I may know a guy up here looking for a partner. Mike
Evinrude……..Evinrude………Evinrude!!! You know it! Im about as stubborn about them as Phil Addison is with Mercury! But if youll notice Phil once had a Powerstroke….and if I remember right now owns a Duramax!!! So you never know. If it really came down to it I would take a Merc over a rice burner any day…..no offense there Mike! No I havent found anyone to fish with. Ill have to check my calendar again. Id like to fish it with someone. Who did you have in mind??? Thanks. Doesnt look like the weather this weekend will be too good for taking a spin. Just be glad we werent out there today. Wed of got blowed plum off the water! Ben

That is exactly correct, and if you call Merc they can tell you that rpm. But I am betting it is your engine cowling, my buddys did it too bad at 3000 rpms. Spray some wd-40 on your cowling mounts, then run it, if it isnt as bad, then you found your problem.
We like the 26p Fury for that set up. All of our customers running the same set up are very happy with that prop. Andy Greene Greene Boat & MotorAndy Greene Greene Boat & Motor 828-286-2290 http://www.greeneboats.com
Sir, I run a O7 Puma / 250 Pro Xs and for the most part I run a 27P Trophy and runs very well. The other day I sent the trophy in for polishing and put my spare on, a 27P Tempest. The PVS plug combination I used is 2 large plugs and 1 solid. I was very pleasently suprised. Factory set-up on the motor, I got a great hole shot, lift plus top end. Give it try if you can. Good Luck, Chuck
I have a 27P Tempest that I had custom worked. I have put less than two hours on the prop since getting it back from the custom shop. The prop has never been damaged. It is a 10 out of 10. I am carrying it as a spare, but I would be willing to part with it. Should scream. PM me if youre interested.
For general users in the order below……………Opinionated of course. 1. 26 Fury 2. 27 Trophy 3. 27 Tempest 4. 26 Trophy 5. 28 Trophy Ive owned five 250 Mercury powered 20+ Bass Cats. The 28 Trophy and the 26 Fury are my props of choice. A 27 Fury may be the way to go if available and if you could get your hands on one!
Phil, Golly!?! Ive only owned “4” 250 powered BCBs and one PII / 150 Evinrude back in 92, and lets see, O Yes! 5 of the R brand boats and 2 of the C brand ” One sunk” O Well. Silly Me!! Good information though. Chuck
