I purchased a 2015 puma with a 250 sho back in december and was very pleased with it as I have ran a basscat for the last 17 years. I fished my first tourney of the year in late feb and couldnt get on plane with the livewells full and 52 gallons of fuel and a partner. The boat has two 8ft pp blades and 4 batteries it came with a 26 fxp turbo prop which was beat up so i purchased a new fxp turbo 26 which is supposed to be a good prob for this combo.?By myself with the livewells full and full fuel it will get on plane sluggishly but with a 200 lbs partner it wont get on plane at all . I may try a 25 pitch however that wont make it go from not getting on plane to getting on plane well enough to satisfy my shallow water needs. Ive had a mechanic look at it a few times already and took it out again yesterday I had myself 230 lbs my daughter 125 lbs full fuel and full livewells and it would struggle to get on plane. If i run the jp all the way up and overtrm it i can reach 5700 rpm wot but thats not the way to run a cat if i run it properly 5400-5500 will be max rpm. Any help would be appreciated.
The power poles are definitely a fulcrum on leverage and make a difference. They do not drag in the water as some suspect. We think a 25 T1 Ventless should be tried. This is a nice combo and the challenge is getting each one dialed in. BCB
Thank you I will give it a try.
Once set up properly it should pop out the hole. The SHO is a beast. 52 Gal of gas is a LOT of weight. I always ran half fuel on both tanks unless absolutely required. Full fuel is 321lbs. Livewells full, another 150 plus lbs. 4 batteries and powerpoles….Heavy. The rear weight adds up quick. The prop has to vent to get the RPMs needed.
350#s of fuel, 240#s of live well water, 250#s of batteries, another 50#s of oil, pumps, partners tackle all under the back deck. Its amazing any of our boats run like they do! Lol! Prop down “fo sho”Chris CoupelPaulina, LaChris CoupelPaulina, La.
Im running a 2011 Eyra with 250 SHO dual 8 blades, 4 batteries and a Detweiler hydraulic jack plate. It came with a 26 Fury 3 blade. As you stated it was very sluggish getting out of the hole with full fuel and live-wells and a partner. I dropped down to a 25 Fury 3 blade and it made a world of difference. I run the 26 Fury when fishing alone and 1/2 tanks or less of fuel. Im thinking for a new 4 blade Fury but not sure which one to order (25 or 26)?
Thank you all very much for your responses I find this very helpful. I will try to run a 25 today weather permitting?Dave what kind of rpms are you running with the fury 25? it sounds like our setups are the same except i hava a atlas hydraulic jp.

I run a supper heavy Puma FTD/Sho. twin blades, 36v 112, myself 300# plus who ever I draw in bfl. I run a 25p sho prop without an issue. If she is sluggish, Ill raise my plate and drop it while im getting on plane. On a side note. I would like to see what happens if you drill vent holes in your 26p fxp. If you can get the rpm up to 3200rpm youll get on plane. If youre close, we can test our different props.
