How bad on gas is this motor on a cougar ftd
Absolutely terrible on fuel, to be brutally honest. It should pass most everything except the Conoco station. That being said it is a not bad in the mid range area and has some efficiency where most run them more often. It is a very dependable product and we really like this engine.
It will burn a lot of gas and oil, but run like a scalded cat. There is an awesome amount of power with the 250XB, but it is not like the new technology Pro XS 250s. Old raw power, analog, EFI vs new, sophisticated, efficient digital, DFI power.
Its the old man of the 250s! I loved everything about the one I ran but the fuel. Its sounds like a Harley back there. It was pretty good in the mid range. If you are like me, gotta run WOT, I can tell you she is going to drink some fuel. Very dependable!
I believe I read somewhere it metered at 29 gallons per hour at the 6000 rpm range, should be about 2.5 miles per gallon
One thing most guys forget about buying a used 250 XB or if your a Yamahammer guy a OX66 3.1 liter is that their Cheap, Cheap to fix, Reliable as all get up, and if powering a close to new hull or one of the Older and lighter Cougars those boats will absolutely fly, yes youll drink more gas, but guys remember it seems like your always at full throttle when you use your boat, and some of your guys make 100 mile runs, but most guys when we plug in their Walleye rig with a 250 or a Bass Boat with a 250 90% of the run time on the EMM is at 2500 or less, now race boats are different, but most guys haul ass for a bit, then set into a nice 4500 rpm cruise, unless their Hunting down Skeeters, Legends and Tritons…..Id say a Old School XB or Merc Race motor on a New Cat would be outstanding, and more efficient than most hulls,
ok i have one on a 2000 cougar 79-80 i have 2 27 galon tanks and everyone in arkansas how far is it from little rock pool ramp to brodi and back any way 1 and 3/4 tank of gas wide open town and 3/4 back wells full if u stay out of it not that bad wide open you need that speed to get to the next gas station
Probably what 30 miles by river from LR Pool at Verizon ramp to Brodie? That would be my guess. Maybe more, never done it by water……with the boats Ive run.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
The trip from Brodie to Little Rock I have done out of the upper Little Rock pool several times, Murray Park and Burns. You can make it easily on the fuel you have, and especially if you back off a smidge. This was a frequent in the 1970s and 1980s during Mr Bass and Arthritis Tournaments. Some even stretched that trip from Little Rock to Dumas and Pendleton, though the barge traffic often shut them down, often by mere minutes. The mileage we do not recall to Brodie, though it was a common run years ago and still is a nice option. You can go on to the Rising Star pool also with the fuel you have, though you will have to watch the extra as you are traveling up river coming back against the current. Rick
It is 4 miles from murray to alltel. It is about 10 to the dam at dam 6It is another 10 to the top of case barAnother 10 to brodie. You double back into the top of brodie you add a few miles and lord knows youll be full throttle to get there. Not that I would have ever considered this run. Since there are no fish in pool 5Last edited by clownshoes on July 9th, 2010, 6:30 pm, edited 1 time in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
