25P Prop Question raise or lower

I have a 2008 Sabre and bought a 2nd prop for winter fishing. I went out Friday for 10 minutes to run my prop for the first time. There are pluses (better WOT) and minuses (slower hole shot) performance after first run. Overall I was impressed with performance with out of the box and ten minutes of run time. When going up to slightly larger pitched prop do you typically lower the prop or raise the prop? I am not sure which way to start. I have some work to do and need info from more experienced BassCat boaters to speed up my process. My RPMS are at 5550 to 5650 but the prop bites the water the best at 5400 rpms at the current prop height. Currently I am at 2 7/8″ below pad. That is the best height for my 24P Blue Printed prop. misr12, Performance on the top end of a Sabre is a little different than the other models. It can be a little looser on the top end and perform just fine. Since we dont know what propeller you have we would stay below steering torque on the height and try to max out speed with a load.

BassCat, Knowing that both props are different I like the loose power steering feeling I get with my 24P Raker II setup. After my initial run with my knew 25P Raker II I feel significant torque at the same height. With that said I am going to raise my motor to 2.75″ below pad with my Raker II 25P prop. At worst I can lower it. Currently, I am getting 20PSI with my 24P setup. Any other advise is welcomed. The process continues. misr12

If you have significant torque, then shouldnt you lower it as BCB suggested. I think you are going to wrong direction if you raise it. Good luck with your setup. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

I actually raised it my motor by 1/8″ and torque went away. Everything is good! misr12

misr12, if you raised your engine and torque went away we sincerely doubt it. Torque is surfacing propeller blade, as burning rubber is tire slippage.

Maybe i was erroneous with my first observation but raising my motor 1/8″ has put that power steering feeling in steering wheel when driving. Thanks for your input. I just installed Raker II 25P prop for winter use. I have gained more WOT speed but have lost about 300 rpms. I could spin more rmps but I loose speed. Would raising the motor create less drag to get the RPMS up on my prop? I am at 2.75″ below pad. I have 25WPSI on straights and drop to about 20 WPSI on long winding turns. I am hitting 69 plus at 46° air temps on the GPS with new Raker II 25P prop on my 2008 Sabre/Evinrude Etec 150HO. According to Evinrude RPM chart I am in the safe operating RPM range however my goals are to crack 70mph and I am so very close. I have hit 69.3 and am trying to squeeze just a bit more out of my setup. Any help and thoughts appreciated. misr12

It could be that the different propeller altered the performance, and that you noticed. You also can gain speed by reducing drag raising the engine, to a point. Then it begins to slow loaded and does not have enough bite in rough water.

Yea, I guess that is similar to my trim experienced too. You raise it to much your rpms go up but the blades dont grab the water. Hmmm.. Another question… What I think I am going to do is raise my motor by an additional 1/8″ to to 2.625 below pad. What do you think? misr12
