This past weekend I spent 3 days running a Fury 4 26p prop. Good all around prop, particularly on the bottom end through mid range. Now its time to send to Ronnie Gilbert to let him work on it to see if there is any gains to be had on the top end while keeping bottom end performance. For comparison this prop is about a 1- 1.5 seconds better on holeshot than my 27 Fury 3 worked by Ronnie Gilbert, but 2.5 – 3 mph slower on top end @ 5900 rpms. Will provide another update on the Fury 4 after the prop has been tuned.Boat: 2017 Puma FTD / 2017 Mercury 250 Pro XS / hydraulic jack plateConditions:air temp – 40-45 Fwater temp – mid 50s Fwater flatLoad: 2 power poles, 4 batteries, tackle in all boxes except very front two, 18 rods/reels45 gallons fuelempty livewellsHoleshot – prop hub vents 6 open / 2 closed:4 – 4.5 seconds in most instances3.5 – 4 seconds with less than 20 gallons gas4-4.5 seconds with 2 people 30 gallons gas4.5 – 5 seconds with 2 people 30 gallons gas, livewells fullalmost zero cavitation as hull breaks over on pad in all instancesTop end speed:78.2 – 78,4 @ 6000-6050 rpms77.1- 77.2 @ 6000 rpms w/ 2 people and more tackle, livewells full and 30 gallons fuelUpdate After Ronnie Gilbert Prop TuneConditions:air temp – 40 Fwater temp – low 60s Fwater flatLoad: 2 power poles, 4 batteries, tackle in all boxes except very front two, 18 rods/reels50 gallons fuelempty livewellsHoleshot – prop hub vents 6 open / 2 closed:very similar as the unworked version in all casesTop end speed:80 – 81.1 @ 6000-6050 rpms77.5 – 78.2 @ 6000 rpms w/ 2 people and more tackle, livewells full and 40 gallons fuelLast edited by PhilAddison on March 5th, 2017, 3:40 am, edited 1 time in total.
Hmmm!!!! Empty livewells, imagine that.

The loaded livewells would be of interest to see the impact on this rig. Oh… Never mind!
I find the fury 4 carries the boat much better at the 4500-5500 rpms on my Jag than the 3 blade. The 3 blade is 1-2 mph faster on the top so I will be interested to see if you can keep the good and get the top speed back. It certainly grips the water better than the 3 blade. I also loads up on the trailer just fine which has been an issue with some of the other 4 blades.
I have a 16 Cougar AE with Merc 250 Pro XS, manual jack plate (8″), running the 26P Fury 3. I run at about 74 mph at about 5200-5400 RPM with the trim close to nuetral. This is loaded with just me in the boat, 36 gals of fuel. Livewells full seems to drop about 2 mph (best guess). I am still in training on trying to keep it out of the chine walk (Ive read numerous articles – I just need more practice 😉 ) Im afraid that I am going to hit redline before I can trim this one out all the way. I presume this is why you were running the 27P Fury 3, and now experimenting with the 26P Fury 4.This boat is amazing fast – Love it! Thanks BCB!Last edited by KevinH on February 8th, 2017, 1:36 pm, edited 1 time in total.
No Big Mike. Dont get caught up in high cottons BS. I was toting this one and some others around for some of the posted numbers above… http://www.ramopenseries.com/Story.php?Newsid=2182 Bug aka high cotton aka big bird aka Andy graves doesnt even know what 5 fish in a live well look like. A bug limit is 3.
Kevin Im testing the prop and working with Ronnie Gilbert who specializes in tuning props to see what the capabilities of a fury 4 are. Im more than satisfied with a fury 3.
Whew – that wont rub out. Ouchie.C.O.D. Jr. III
Bug you can stay with the fury 3 since you are mostly light on load.
