OK Guys, I have a 2000 merc 225 EFI, I bought it from Tim Rawls July of 2007 and I know i Have had the engine cowl off before. I tried to take it off to service the engine and cannot find the rear cowl release. I have found the front and have been all over the entire upper unit 4 or 5 times and cannot find a release of any kind. I nned to change the fuel filter so please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike

Hi msfatcat, If its like my 225 mariner it doesnt have a rear release its just the front one. Are you fishing media bass this sat. , CHRIS

No Im fishing Clinton Bass Club, Im the Sec/Treas and have to pay out. Thanks, Ill try again and there isnt a V6 emblem only a decal. Mike

There should be one on the rear of the cowling. Take a look under the rear and at the side of the cowling under the corners also. The front one is in the middle and you found it. BCB

I have been all over the rear of the engine at all levels and cant find any release except the front one. Thanks, Mike

Mike, I dont remember any rear latch just undo the front latch and push back Good to hear this is the first time cowling has to come off. I had to have a new block on my 225 proxs with just 115 hours Tim Rawls 870 995 2518

OK guys, yall were right there was one release on the front and the cowl slides back and up, IF the seal is not stuck to the cowl ALL the way around and had to be pryed loose. Thanks, Mike
