91′ Pantera II, 175 Johnson, motor height problems

I have a 91′ P2 with a 96′ Johnson 175, 20″ lower unit. I’m having engine height adjustment difficulties and wondering if anyone else has a P2 with a Johnson hanging on it. I have a Vance 6″ manual jackplate and it is adjusted as low as possible. I have a Raker 3 blade 24 pitch prop. I can only run 57 mph. It seems I need to drop motor even further. Was thinking about a 10″ jackplate. Any suggestions?

Someone has changed the Plate to a Vance and that’s most likely why you can’t lower it more. The original Plate was a CMC. We assume it was hydraulic and the unit failed, then they replaced it with a Vance. You can try lowering the engine on the Plate and the Johnson should have a trim limit switch in the front tube.

BCB, I have lowered my motor to the point that the lower unit cone is around 6″ below the bottom of the boat. With a 6″ jack plate I have to be careful when trimming up. I have damaged the edge of the spash well from trimming up too far. Do you know if a 10″ jack plate will work on my P2?
