Need help on this boat. A close friend just bought this set-up and called in distress! Both of us (475lbs), tank and a half of gas and the boat is a dog!!!!! out of the hole!!!!!! The prop has 25M on it. Any ideas what prop or if he may have a motor problem? WOT showed 68 on his digital dash speedo but it takes a good 40-60 yards to get the boat on plane. Thanks for the help!!!
I had almost an identical set-up. It was a 95 PII with a 200 Mercury EFI. It had a 25p Tempest and ran in the mid to upper 60s depending on the load. Empty I got it up to 73 on a GPS. I tried a 25p Mercury Turbo prop and it wouldnt even come out the hole, it would just blow out. Hope this helps out some.
The turbo prop that I bought used had the same marking, 25M. I was told by a prop shop that it was a Mercury Turbo prop. 25 meaning the pitch.
Some have gone to a Tempest in a 25 and others go with the Pro series in a 25. Either should work on a Pantera III from what I have seen here. Overall not a bad combo unless something is amiss?
dont like the yammys they break easy ,started with a yammy 25 then wet to a trophy & now @ a tempest all 25 pitch, the trophy is grate for handling, mine drove like a go-cart but lost a few mph, the tempest gives me more speed. the trophy I had a BLOW-OUT ring(KPS http://www.keystone propeller.com) & all the holes completly pluged for a decent HS, my tempest has the factory 3/8 plugs in it i tink & hole shot is good.
That 25M is probably a Yamaha 3 blade. The PIIs run best with a Tempest. Trophys are good, as are the Powertechs. But, the pro series are decent props. I would get with a good shop and have them tune your prop. In any case, with any prop, IMO with a full load on a PII, any prop needs to be tuned to get a good holeshot. Please help!! Im the owner of the 94 PII stratos201 is talking about. Bought the boat last month and really like the rig, BUT the hole shot very weak. the motor fills and sounds like it is lugging for the first 40 to 60 yards then begins to pick-up rpms and begins to plane out; after that the motor runs fine. Im located in north GA. are there any dealers/owners near by that can help? I really need help with this one, as Im getting tired of hearing that I should have bought a stratos!!!!!!!!!!!
We would olove to help out more. Though on a 1994 model used, the variables are many. We would again recommend a 25 Pro Series propeller. Most Yamaha dealers can tell you if you have one now. We have not really run anything expect this prop on the Yamahas. It has worked well for a nubmer of years and we see no reason if all is healthy, it would not on your rig>? No you should not have bought a Stratos, We dont need to compare horror stories and CS Departments. Willing to help, just not sure how?Step one, find out what you have. Step Two, we go back to another option. Serial number on the boat and history on the motor itself? BCB
