We believe the cap you are mentioning is the clean out on top of the tank, and is a large square fixture in black. If so then you can remove the center and clean out those tanks. We would suggest it if you have fuel concerns. You are going to be amazed the amount of trash in those tanks. Make sure to do this outside and disconnect all sources of power. BCB
BCB – is a large square fixture in black. If so then you can remove the center and clean out those tanks – BCB Yes that is what Im referring to, mine are round and more in the center of the tanks, they both have a manual fuel gauge on them as well. However, will they just pop off or are they threaded on the tanks? Is there a gasket I should watch for? Once tanks are empty is there a way (other than taking the tanks out of the boat) to remove the trash in tanks? I never thought of the trash in the tanks, thanks for bring that to my attention BCB! Ill be sure to disconnect all power. Thanks, Steve
Your tanks may not have a clean out, though you can go through the sending unit as you mention, that is the round piece you are referring to. THe clean out is on some earlier models of Bass Cat Boats, and we think yours has that square 2 piece clean out. BCB
Thanks BCB Hopefully I can get this all taken care of and get back to fishing! Thanks for your help…. Steve
I know I have read on this board somewhere about an issue like I am facing. Sorry if its a repeat. I have a 96 PII with both fuel tanks full. This weekend I need to get all the gas out so I can get fresh fuel with a high octane to break in my engine I just had rebuilt. I have a syponing hose ready but didnt know if there is a faster way? On top of both tanks there is a “cap” (not sure what its called sorry-still learning myself) where the fuel line goes in and the over flow line is at. Is there a way to remove that “cap” or is it sealed on the tanks? Just wondering if there is a way to get a hand pump line in the tanks where that “cap” is located or is syponing the only way to go? Any help would be great appreciated… Thanks in advance…. Steve
BassCat Boats User User BassCat Boats Reply Fuel tank/pick up removal help by delta rat Oct 26 12 8:33 PM Well narrowed it down it appears my driver side rear pick up has become dislodge or something. I hooked up a bulb to the tank and nothing. Did the same to the other tank and out came the gas. Its tight quarters and wondering if there is some type of trick to getting the pick up out. I assume I will have to remove the tank which i wonder if there is a trick to that. Due to the limited space on top having a heck of a time disconnecting hoses etc.. looks like all the batteries and oil reservoir will need to come out as well. Any help greatly appreciated. by Bass Cat Boats Oct 26 12 9:24 PM Probably just the battery trays so you can swivel it out on an angler, by loosening the brackets and fill hose. Then you shuld be ale to remove the hose and the pickup just unscrews. Good Luck! Well, they are able to be removed, though we wouldnt. The tops on a 1996 have a removable insert that the pickup, sending unit and a vent plug all are housed in. You can remove the screws and seal, that plate drops down into the tank so be cautious in handling. The capsule cap comes out and you should be able to clean the inside of the tank out through that access port.
Thanks for the replies…
BCB, Is the seal reusable?
Usually though you may have to cut one as the part is NLA.
