99 Cougar with 99 Optimax SPEED

I have been trying for 2 years to adjust my prop, jackplate, etc. I have never been able to get my speed over 69 (one person with little fuel). If I have 2 adults with gas tanks full and live well full, I can only get 65. I have a 99 Cougar DC. I heard that the 98 & 99 Optimax motors had different exhausts and caused the restrictions. Does anyone out there have my same setup with a 98 or 99? Ryan 901-461-4740

How big is the motor? I wont be able to help you but I think the guys here that can will need to know the HP.

The different exhaust is the most impacting factor, and there are other mods on later engines. We find them running from 67 to 72 on most. BCB
