NO WAY I WAS GOOD THIS PAST YEAR, BUT SANTA CAME ANYWAY. BROUGHT ME A 997 NVB HUMMINGBIRD….. I SPOKE WITH BO FROM LUTERS ABOUT THE INSTALL…. MOUNT IN DASH WHERE 520 LOWRANCE IS. MOUNT TRANSDUCER ON JACK PLATE. WILL NEED ANOTHER TRANSDUCER TO BE INSTALLED IN HULL OF BOAT BECAUSE 997 WILL NOT READ WHILE RUNNING MORE THAN AT IDLE. INSTALL A SWITCH. GPS PUCK PLACED WHERE THE LOWRANCE PUCK IS NOW. TAKE 520 TO THE FRONT AND REPLACE THE 510 THAT IS THERE NOW, AND PUT OTHER LOWRANCE PUCK UP FRONT. TRY AND SELL 510 LOWRANCE…. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE THE WAY TO GO.???? BO NORMALLY KNOWS HIS STUFF……..THANKS ROBIN BY THE WAY,, LUTER AND BO HAVE ALWAYS BEEN 1ST CLASS, AND WILLING TO ACCOMMODATE ANY WAY THEY CAN…

the puck in the bilge may fit right next to the existing lowrance puck unless you are going to move it as well. The Hummingbird doesnt us an A/B switch anymore .There is a “Y” connector at the dash which switches automatically as the speed increases(maybe it is a mercury switch). Remember to trim the motor up some when using the side scan as I feel the lower unit can interfere slightly just by physically blocking some of the signal Regards, Bob Olinski

You are on the right track, Ive been using Hbird SI for the last 3 years and initially had it on the trolling motor and front deck. Your transducer will work much better mounted on the transom/jackplate and looking for structure as you move along with the big motor at 2-5 mph, I moved one back there once I had 2 SI units and saw how much I was missing. You will love it once you figure it out. Mike

Id be interested in knowing if you get the 997 installed in your dash (and what kind of boat you installed it in). I initially wanted to install my 997 in the dash of my 07 Puma but after measuring with the template that came with it, it wouldnt fit, at least not flush. I ended up mounting it with a ram mount and just leaving my LMS 320 in the dash. I think Id prefer to have the 997 in the dash if that would work though and just remove the 320.

The 997 can be flush mounted at the console on any P4, Puma, Puma FTD, or Cougar FTD.

You will need the adapter plate to mount the 997.

To flush mount the 997 you need a plate from BCB…contact parts and they will fix you up. It is a fairly inexpensive item. Judd Lasiter

Super! Ill check out the adapter plate. Im in the process of replacing my Lowrance on the front now so Ill have all Humminbird and can share waypoints so it would be a good time to remount the 997 in the dash too. I dont suppose there would be any pictures out there of what the adapter plate or an installation of it looks like? Thanks, Kelby

Kelby, The BCB home page http://www.basscat.com has a picture of the Puma FTD and it is flush mounted on that. I havent ever flush mounted one so I dont have pictures. Sorry. JL PS – I guess I need to work on my typing BCB beat me by 2 minutes
