A few reminders from Doug Swann who passed 2 years ago today:#1) Give your kids a kiss/hug today(he used to always say that)#2) Be generous with your money and time to those that matter- he always was!#3) Always make sure you never have more than 5 in the livewell- #4) Go easy on the Ranch Dressing the night before a derby-#5) When in doubt throw a jig or a trap and quit all this running aroundC.O.D. Doug was an amazing guy. Shouldnt have happened so soon…..
Amazing guy. Spoke his opinion but there if you needed him. I remember that lake ouachita tournament two years ago for the Sherwood bass club. He saw Paul and myself and made some flip comment about two brothers. It was snow the night before, and I hollered at Doug ” I come out of retirement to fish against you and you bring the snow? ” to which he responded “put your big boy pants on, Im fishin!” Funny as heck to me! Good rules to go by though!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
He was full of them and always had the last word. Seven years back in the Sherwood club, partner and I were beat. It was typical Arkansas July/August in Dumas and furnace hot. Kyle & I were throwing in the towel on the day. When we idled by Skipper & Gilligan, We heard “how yall doin?”. When we said we were done, in true Doug fashion, he hollered almost sternly – Boy, tie you on a jig and find a bridge. We did and found a couple more. I took the lesson to be, if it aint 3P – theres always a way to make it better, just figure it out, and dont come in till you do.
Miss our talks. Doug was great guy
WORDS OF WISDOM FOR SURE
I will never forget the day two years ago when I reached for my phone to call and check on Doug, and it rang. It was Joey Korte on the phone calling to give me the news that Doug had passed, literally as I was going to call him. Last year I bumped into Lisa and the boys at the 178 Club in Bull Shoals, as they were here to spend time together on the anniversary of Dougs passing. They all looked good and they invited us down to the house for a visit, though I passed as I felt they needed time to themselves to memorialize Doug as they felt. I miss Doug, and I miss Gary, and I miss that big ole Sam. I still have a part of Sams boat from a time he made an accident happen. Then as pleased as we are with Joe Okada on our advertising, Gary and I clicked to do some amazing work, which Joe and I do now. It soon will be three (3) years on Garys passing. He tried hard to keep tuggin his end of the rope till he no longer could. Doug had a heart of gold and would do anything you asked and more than you would ask or expect. I am sure that his brother Dudley is missing him greatly. Then today I learned of Hugh Crumpler III passing just today, when I visited with him yesterday. This is all hitting very close to home. Well enough reminiscing. We all miss them and they gave us the Great American Function which started at Lukes place. Ive been blessed to be around BCB long enough now that all three of the men that are mentioned here, I considered friends.”Basketman” and Gary were especially close, and Gary did so much to help me personally that I am still in awe.And now Hugh Crumpler—I fished with him at Stick Marsh for two days, back in the 80s, when he was still fishing from a SlingShot boat.He was personally responsible for showing me just how deadly a Chug Bug topwater can be, and put me on a 10 pounder that ruined the rear hooks on an RC 3. Will never forget that one.I know that they are all looking down at what is coming at Conroe with a big smile.God Bless the BCB Family, one and all of us.
Man I wish me and Ol Doug could have talked guns, politics, and about Bug. I really think we would have hit it off.

Only Ally I had. Loved him some Griff. Always had a good Ward or Phil story. And yeah. He would have loved you
