Getting ready to put an access hole in under trolling motor pedal. Does anyone know what size hole saw that is recommended for this? Thanks Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk

I saw on another thread or the BCB thread on Facebook that the best tool is a zip saw. Ive never used one but from looking at it, it looks like it would work well.

I would suggest a 6″ hole saw. Thats what I used. If you have the cover, make sure the hole saw is inside of the screw holes. You might look at a 5″ hole saw.George

It depends on your cover plate.. I & BCB normally use a 61/2″ dia. plate and mounting holes are 51/2″ pattern so you cut a 41/2″ hole. I use a 41/2″ hole saw so I get a nice round even hole.

Ive weighed this option many times. To the point i ordered the access cover. Just havent done the access yet. However i have used a hole saw in fiberglass dashes on numerous occasions. I would suggesst running the drill in reverse using lite pressure untill the gel is “scored” before running the drill in forward. This will prevent “chipping” on the o.d. of the hole.i would also remove the sharp edge around the o.d. (outside diameter) of the hole. This serves 2 purposes. It will protect your arms from cuts. It will also reduce the chance of cracks coming from the sharp edge. A roll sander does a nice job for this application

Thanks for the tips. I have drilled smaller holes in the dash many times without issue. However I will admit I am a little nervous with this one lol. Planning on installing a balzout and this seems the best way to go. Plus it will help make running cables and everything else so much easier. Sanding the edges is great idea.
