Advise on compartment lighting for 2006 cougar FTD

Im am trying to figure out why my stroage lighting is not working. Im still trying to figure things out with my new to me boat. What has to be on besides the main power? I have a acc, pumpin and pump out and security on the left hand side of consol and on right i have the normal bcb touch pad. can someone please help me out. Also what will cause all these lights not to work? i have tried turning all power and acc buttons on and still have no lights working in my compartments. I am missing a few bulbs but not all of them, will this cause them not to work? Please Help!Last edited by tpharmon23 on April 23rd, 2015, 8:48 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Have you checked all the connections? You may want to replace the missing bulbs.

I have not. Just trying to get a few ideas so i can start checking things. I will try that. Should they just work with main power switch on or do i have to have the acc buttons on with main power?

The bulbs will not prevent operation though the power supply would be our suggestion to trace from the small touch pad.

Mine was the ground wire that is screwed to the hinges. From opening and closing sometimes they come lose or even break. Mine also had the micro switches in the lid and sometimes I have to bang the lid to get them to come on. Other compartments work just fine when opened and closed. You can also do a search in the Frequently Asked Questions and there is a lot of information there.Hope that helpsJohn

were the old style mercury switches made into the compartment doors.? Because i have one wire attached to something on the lids.

Usually the failures are in grounds on the lids machine screws, through the hinges. The capsule is welded onto the lid and the mercury capsule can fail as the weld on part loosens the solder in time. The power supply can be traced to the main harness grounds and the grounds are what is running through the lids and merury switches if the angled aluminum blocks are welded to the aluminum lids.

so with the replacement mercury switches where do i need to mount them, and since my on lid switches are one wire how do i wire them to make the new ones work because from the pictures it seems they have two wires on them.

Before you do anything check the wires at that barrier strip in the back of the boat. Ive had more than one wire or connector broken at that point on my 2004 FTD.
