How is the economy looking around Huntsville? Living in Ohio now, wife told me if I wanted to move down there to go and look for a job. Open to other cities also. I subscribed to the Huntsville Times sunday edition today. Anybody have any other ideas or suggestions? I can take the yankee and OSU jokes so let me have it if you must. I am a long time bass cat owner and read this site every day, just dont post much. Thanks and Happy Easter. Carl
Birmingham, AL is a big medical town.
The Auburn/Opelika area is really doing pretty, especially since Kia has a plant in West Point, GA (less than 20 miles away). Several component manufacturers for Kia also have factories in the area as well.
Here in Arkansas there is alot of well paying jobs in the Natural Gas Field especially if you have a CDL and if you are around the atkins russelville area there is some great fishing on lake dardnelle and lake atkins (stocked with florida strain) and dardnelle is an awesome fishery
Carl, You would fit in just fine her in Huntsville. Ton of Northern Transplants here. What line of work are you in? Huntsville is big Military Contrator town. It is also the capital of the south when it comes to egineers. It has one of the biggest and busyest hospitals in the state. Now for the important stuff I live in North East Huntsville I can be to Goose Pond “Guntersville” in 35 min, Waterfront 45 mid lake “Guntersville” Honeycomb the other end of “Guntersville” in 25. Ingalls Harbor Decatur “Wheeler lake” in 30 mi. Ditto Landing which is on Wheeler but in South Huntsville in 18 min. I can be over to Wilson & Pickwick in Hour and Half. It is probably the prettiest place in Alabama to live in the city (which isnt very big) or out in the country in about 10 min any direction. Traffic isnt nearly as bad as Birmingham (where I grew up but will never move back to.) Crime is relatively low here but does seem to be on the rise, which I think relates to the general econonomy of the country. Home prices are reasonable and the market is in pretty good shape. The one thing that is a negative is we dont have a Tackle Shop that is worth anything here in town. I am a medical device rep and my wife is a CRNA so we are tied into the medical field. I hope this helps if you have any other questions just IM me. ThanksBryon
Thanks everybody. Bryon, First thing beautiful boat. I think my next boat will be a eyra. I owned a custom cabinet shop in Las Vegas for 22 years. My wife has been a director at a couple different call centers. Funny you mention tackle stores, I have been the manager of Landbigfish.com, a internet and 8000 sq. ft tackle store in Akron, Ohio for the last 2 years. alot of our products come from around there and everyone I talk to loves it there. The fishing is pretty good around here but I cant imagine fishing all those great lakes. If anyone has any suggestions or leads it would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to coming down there and looking around and meeting some fellow bass cat owners. When is that bass cat event on guntersville? Again Thanks… Carl
Kingsport, TN & TriCities TN/VA…incredible area with unbelievable fishing and lots of lakes and rivers, Smokey Mtns, and a great lifestyle. The Elite Series event on Douglas Lake is about 45 minutes from here. Sent you an IM with more info.
LC – choochoo gave you a pretty good idea of decent times here in Huntsville. I live out even further towards the NE part of the area in New Market and can be on Big G in less than 30 minutes. All the important things as he mentioned are as advertised to include not only the great Tennessee River, but just an hour or so south is the Coosa and Talapoosa river lakes such as Lay Lake, Logan Martin, Lake Martin, Neely-Henry, etc. However, being retired from the Army and now a government contractor I will say that the job market is very tight at this time. The austerity that the current presidential regime is driving into the DoD is really creating problems for government contractors. The government is not buying as it was with all the draw down and the changes in the force. So, bottom line, if you are looking for a job, it may not be as easy as advertised. But, I moved here from Texas in the late 80s and can say that the fishing and the community is great.
