Alarm battery on smart guage

I went out for the first time after a long winter, 2007 225Pro Xs The alarm keeps going off saying check engine and battery comes up on the smart guage. It reads 11.4 volts. It wont let me get above 3000 rpm. According to my on board charger the battery is charged. What else to look for. Thanks. Dan

If the battery is only at 11.4 volts, it is not fully charged, but the engine alternator should bring it up. Since it continues to give you the alarm, obviously the alternator is not charging. My 07 ProXS did the same thing when I first got it and it was a blown fusable link in the charging system. If you unhooked the battery for winter storage and then rehooked it, its possible that it was hooked up backwards and shorted out that fusable link. Thats what had happened to mine when the batteries were first hooked up.

Scott is right and that part wont be under warranty. More than likely it happened exactly as Scott pointed out. You can charge that battery all day long and bring it to full charge and within a very short time that battery will be down. The outboards computer system can go through a lot of amps real quick! Good luck with your problem.

It also could be the voltage regulator and/or alternator, and possibly the stator. The fusable link often would not allow function at all. BCB

Check the 20a fuse,cleaned the battery terminal and went back out and this time I could run up the RPMs but when I would hit the trim the alarm would go off. Thanks again. Dan

Your trim drew enough amps to pull the battery down to unsatisfactory level for the guardian system. I think you need to go and see a mechanic. It will take out a lot of the headache youre going through.

They will put it on the DDT and diagnose the fault in minutes.

Before you go make sure your connections are tight (plier tight) because loose battery connections can cause the Optis to do some funky stuff. If the dealership is not easy here are a couple of other things to try: 1. Change to a fresh battery. 2. Charge the battery with a portable charger. I know it is a fairly new battery but they can and will lay down…especially if not charged and maintained over the winter. I had a similar issue this fall and mine was the charger was showing green and everything was fine but it wasnt fully charging the battery. If a dealer is close then I would for sure let them do all the diagnostics of this because it will be much easier on you. My dealer knew what was wrong before they even put a tester on the boat. When I was at the OI, we were coming back from up river and my alt. belt broke. All of a sudden 3K RPMs was max and we ran 15 miles at that speed. Fortuanetly we started back early. 100 yards from weigh in, she died…living right I guess cause we had a couple of good fish. Merc trailer was there and a bolt had backed out allowing a pulley to eat into the belt. It was replaced. If battery is low the guardian system takes over but Im with Phil, go to the dealer and you can eliminate possibilities.
